In memory of Wayne Paplow

1949-WAYNE PAPLOW-2020

  Wayne  Elmer  Paplow, the son of Elmer and Dorothy (Burgess) Paplow, was born on March 29, 1949 in Worthington, MN the oldest of 7 children. He was baptized as an infant at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fulda. He grew up on the family farm west of Fulda. Wayne attended school in Fulda, graduating from the Fulda High School in 1968. He then attended Worthington Community College for 2 years before joining the US Army Reserves from 1970-1976. Wayne was united in marriage to Shelia Kuehl on June 24, 1972 at First Lutheran Church in Dundee. They made their home and raised their 3 children in Dundee their entire married lives. Wayne was confirmed as an adult at First Lutheran church in Dundee and has been a life long member. He served on the Dundee City Council and was mayor for nearly 40 years, retiring in January of 2019 due to declining health. Wayne worked for Kruse Paving for over 20 years and also farmed. He was a trained weather spotter. Wayne passed away on Monday, January 27, 2020 at the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington, MN at the age of 70. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Dundee where served on the church council and cemetery board. Wayne also belonged to the Joseph Suding Post 386 for over 46 years and was a past commander and was currently the membership chairman. Wayne also belonged to the Dundee Rod and Gun Club, Nothing Days committee, Dundee Fire Dept. and was the Dundee Water Superintendent for many years. He enjoyed going to farm auctions and was an excellent welder. He also enjoyed his morning coffee visits at the elevator, but his greatest blessing was his children and grandchildren. Wayne had a passion for wrestling, as he was a state college wrestling champion in 1970 and advanced to a 5th place at Nationals. He loved nothing more than to watch his sons on the mat.

   Survivors include his wife, Shelia Paplow of Dundee, MN; Children, Cory (Lisa) Paplow of Lakefield, MN and children, Emily, Elese and Evan, Brannon (Margo) Paplow of Truman, MN and their children, Brynne and Alex Anderson and Nathan and Connor Simmonds, Paige and Torrey Paplow, Alaina (Matt Van Muyden) Paplow of Okabena, MN and children, Morgen and Skyler; siblings, Roger Paplow of Dell Rapids, SD, Doug (Susan) Paplow of Fulda, MN, Bob (Brenda) Paplow of Bigelow, MN, Todd (Barb) Paplow of Fulda, MN, Tammy (Bob) Kuehl of Fulda, MN and Dennis (Shannon) Paplow of Fulda, MN; brothers-in-law, Stuart (Julie) Kuehl of Amery, WI and Gary (Mary) Kuehl of Littleton, CO; many nieces nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and half brother, Donald.

Funeral Services were held at First Lutheran Church Dundee, MN at 10:30 AM on Friday, January 31, 2020 with Rev. Karla Kirkeby officiating.  The organist was Norma Dittmann. The soloist was Sheila Crowley. The pallbearers were Easton Lackmann, Jason Paplow, Jeff Paplow, Paul Paplow, Troy Paplow and Tyler Paplow. Interment at Dundee Lutheran Cemetery Dundee, MN. A special thanks to all the caregivers who helped Wayne during his dialysis struggles and to the staff at Sunset Cottage House, May God bless you all.
