Jerry’s Jottings 10-17-2017

This past Sunday brought reality back home with several inches of snow. No one appreciated it and thoughts of a long snow filled winter consumed us. It will be a long winter.

Friday the Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota, Michelle Bachman, was in Luverne for the Pheasant Opener that started on Saturday. Governor Mark Dayton missed the eighth and his last opener.The City of Luverne was a gracious host. The community came together for the extraordinary event. I did not hunt on Saturday and I missed a good time. It was a successful event that brought a lot of attention to Luverne and the Southwest corner of our state.

Fulda will host the Oktoberfest on Friday, October 19, at the Fulda Community/Legion with pork burgers, brats, beer and apple strudel. Yes there will be other stuff, Grab your lederhosen or come as you are it starts at 5 p.m.

A candidate forum for city council and mayor will be held Thursday, October 18 at the Fulda Community/Legion building. There will be an opportunity to see everyone’s ability and expertise. Having a full slate of contenders has not happened in recent history. It’s your opportunity to compare and understand the views of those willing to serve the communities interest.

Two mountaineers reached a huge, deep fissure in a glacier.

“Careful here,” says one of them. “My mountain guide fell down there last year.”

“I bet you felt bad about that,” says the other.

He quipped, “Not really, it was pretty old and missing a few pages.”
