Jerry’s Jottings 5-8-2019

It was a great weekend and there were hundreds of things a person could have done outside and I didn’t do most of them. Maybe next week. We did have a great time with friends. Sunday afternoon we did get a few plants in the ground before the next snowstorm. The robins will be disappointed again. The flowers were hostas that we split from existing plants and a few we wintered over. It’s difficult to put much in the ground before Mother’s Day. There is that thing old mothers say about not planting before the leaves on the oak (ash) tree are the size of a squirrel’s ear, ask any old mother. So starting Monday, after celebrating the great accomplishments of our mothers, we can start planting in earnest.

Mother’s Day is Sunday. It’s time to understand and appreciate the loving, caring, nurturing and protector that mothers are while teaching life’s lesson. The love and caring never ends. It’s her day and our duty to make sure she is proud of her accomplishments. Hats off to all mothers.

We had to have the garage door repaired. The repairman told us that one of our problems was that we did not have a ‘large’ enough motor on the opener.

I thought for a minute, and said that we had the largest one made at that time, a 1/2 horsepower.

He shook his head and said, ‘You need a 1/4 horsepower.’

I responded that 1/2 was larger than 1/4 and he said, ‘NOOO, it’s not. Four is larger than two.’

We haven’t used that repairman since…
