Jerry’s Jottings 6-26-2019

The sobering thought is that it is less than six months until the first day of winter is officially here. It will be about December 20 and we will be worried about buying enough presents and how much food will we need to feed the gang. The weather will be important so all the relatives can get there and more importantly that they can leave for home on time. But let’s enjoy our mosquitoes while we can.

This year’s crop is what it is. Most are planted, some are not. The land in general is green with new crops. Some of the corn will be past the old knee high goal by the fourth. There are a lot of beans and some fields that are too wet to plant.

Mowing grass will take up my spare time this time of year. It seems to come back in about four days and you can do it again. The fun has no end. The weeds in any crack have a strong hold on life.

I was observing two men that were working for the public works department. One would dig a hole and the other would follow behind him and fill the hole in.

After a while I had to ask, “Why do you dig a hole, only to have your partner follow behind and fill it up again?”

The hole digger wiped his brow and sighed, “Well, I suppose it probably looks odd because we’re normally a three-person team. But today the lad who plants the trees called in sick.”
