We have gathered enough moisture to last us awhile. Rain amounts vary and two neighbors had the same amount. Some were saying one and a half inches while a few blocks away were getting seven plus. The thunder and lighting seem to last all night. This is the second time this year that some roads were under water with streams and rivers out of their banks. Sioux Falls was pounded by several tornados but overall escaped with no loss of life. It’s not one of our normal September storms and one wonders what in store for this winter.
The Fulda Depot had its paint scraped off this weekend by a group of dedicated volunteers. It was the first step in repainting the building. What color is the question at this point. The history of the Milwaukee railroad depot colors has changed over the years and varied by regions. Fulda’s two story depot has been gray with maroon trim and skirting for a long as most can remember. There are brown and beige, orange and maroon and there was two tone grey. What this one will be is still in the air. Old photos are all black and white so that doesn’t help with the color scheme.
The immediate problem is to get a primer coat on now and settle the color issue over the winter.
Grass mowing is back absorbing any spare time.

At the end of my factory shift, I was asked to purchase some supplies. The machines’ conveyor belts needed talcum powder to prevent them from sticking, and we had run out of aspirin for workers with noise-induced tension headaches.
I drove to the nearest store and loaded a shopping cart with four cases of baby powder and several boxes of aspirin. As the man behind me in the checkout line peered at my purchases, he laughed and exclaimed, “Must be one heck of a baby!”
