Joy in the Journey 10-30-2019

Six little stories to encourage your day…..

     1.  Once all the villagers decided to pray for rain.  On the day of prayer all the people gathered, but only one boy came with an umbrella.

             That’s FAITH.

     2.  When you throw babies in the air, they laugh because they know you will catch them.

             That’s TRUST.

     3.  Every night we go to bed without any assurance of being alive the next morning, but still we set the alarm to wake up.

             That’s HOPE.

     4.  We plan big things for tomorrow in spite of zero knowledge of the future.

             That’s CONFIDENCE.

     5.  We see the world suffering, but still we get married and have children.

             That’s LOVE.

     6.  On an old man’s shirt was written a sentence, “I am not 80 years old; I am sweet 16 with 64 years of experience.”

             That’s ATTITUDE.

Have a happy day and live your life like the six stories.  When we are young, we think nap time is a punishment.  When older, it’s like a mini-vacation.

I  became a part of a neighborhood Bible Study group almost forty years ago!  We met every week, encouraging each other and sharing God’s word to help our days and weeks go better. In the years that I taught school, I had to be absent from the weekly get togethers, but they always included me in the Christmas parties and summer picnics.  In the past few years I have once again been able to attend.  Some of the group members have changed, but their purpose and focus has not.  A couple weeks ago, we enjoyed laughter while eating this delicious fall cake!  Audry Gerdes, who used to be in our neighborhood, but now lives in Worthington, shared this recipe for all to enjoy.

Pumpkin Carmel Cake

1 yellow cake mix

3 eggs

1 can pumpkin

2 tsp. pumpkin spice

1/4 cup oil

Mix this altogether, and pour into a greased, 9 by 13 pan.  Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes.

Cool a little, and poke holes in the cake with a wooden spoon handle.  Pour carmel topping over the warm cake. (Can also sprinkle chopped walnuts over the carmel if you wish.)

Serve whipped cream on top, with a little extra carmel drizzled over the top.
