Joy in the Journey

This is a special week for those who believe in the Christian faith. The most important week and time of celebration for those who have chosen to believe and follow Jesus as their Saviour.  When we believe, we can say aloud, “ He is Risen!. And because He has, darkness has been conquered by light.  Death is overpowered by life.  And, yes, hate will have to succumb to love”.

Jesus entered this world as an infant, lying in a stable, but with a plan for his life that only God can understand completely.  In his short thirty-three years of life, he loved, preached, taught, performed miracles, and drew people to himself everywhere he went.  God loves us, even though we have disappointed Him so many times with our actions and our words.  He wants us to return our love to Him, and we have the choice to choose eternal life with Him by believing and accepting Jesus death on the cross over 2000 years ago.

Romans 5:6-8   “ You see, just at the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.  Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Jesus Christ told his followers that after his death he would raise in three days. Until they realized that it had actually happened, they were scared, confused, lost, and wondering what they would do without the man they had followed and loved.  He had left a sealed tomb, and certainly was alive.  His life was given as a sacrifice for ours, the supreme offering that brings us to eternal life, if we choose to believe and follow his teachings.

The resurrection of Jesus Christ brought love among us. It is the very principle of our existence.  Humans are not satisfied with bread alone.  We desperately need love, almost more than the air we breathe.  It is our job to love those that are around us.  Those we meet, those we live with, anyone who God puts in our path on each day’s journey.  Yes, we will fail at that sometimes. But when we keep striving for unconditional love for  those we share the same earthly space with, the resurrection of Christ will become meaningful, and our life path  will become more joyous.  Peace and happiness will become gifts returned to us.  In a way that will surprise us sometimes.

When we celebrate Easter, we must think of blood.  Christ’s blood.  In the Bible, where we find this incredible story of redemption, I Peter 1: 18-19 says, “ The ransom he (Jesus) paid was not mere gold of silver.  It was the precious blood of Christ.”  Our worth in God’s eyes cannot be calculated, because he shed his blood for us.  We MUST stop trying to find our worth in how we look, or in what we do for a living, or in how people treat us.  We mustn’t spend our life trying to win other people’s acceptance or approval.

If we believe and accept that Jesus was born the son of God, lived, died on the cross, and rose to bring us eternal life….then we can know that we are accepted and approved by God.  Our sense of worth comes from Him.  We will be redeemed, covered and accepted through Christ’s blood.  And since His blood is “precious”, that makes us precious in His sight too.  Satan would like us to forget that and only see our flaws and failures.  But Christ’s love for us is greater than any power that Satan can wield.

I encourage you to celebrate this time of remembering Christ’s death and resurrection.  There are special services held this week all over our area. If you do not know the story of Jesus, I would suggest you go to see the movie “Risen”.  This week it will be shown FREE OF CHARGE in Worthington on Friday evening at 7:00 P.M.  (Popcorn is even included in the price!)  Worthington Christian Church at 1501 North Douglas is offering this for anyone in our area who wishes to come.  And…if you know the story personally, you will be blessed and reminded in this viewing of the movie as well.

Happy Easter to you and your family.  Celebrate!!  He is alive!  He is risen!

I Peter 1:3-4  “ Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!  In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade – kept in heaven for you!”
