Joy in the Journey 4-24-2019

I spent about an hour and a half sitting in the dentist chair in Sioux Falls, while undergoing a root canal on my “number 19” tooth.  About half of my mouth was numb, and I was wondering if I ever would be able to swallow normally again!  The doctor told me to keep my mouth open as wide as I could.  He said it would go much quicker if I could do that.  Huh?  I thought I WAS doing that!

Finally I heard the words “ we will finish up this filling and then be on the home stretch”.  I was more than ready for that to happen.  After all the “stuff” was removed from my mouth, I was able to partially answer the dental hygienist’s questions.  My speech was certainly not up to par at that point, even though I was giving it my best try.

I was given a couple prescriptions for pain and an anti-inflammatory med.  I wasn’t in a lot of pain right at that moment, but of course my mouth was still not feeling much.  Once I received the bill and proceeded to write the check, it became a lot more painful. Ouch!!  What could they have possibly done to me or for me to warrant that kind of cash?  I decided I had better fill those prescriptions before we made the sixty plus miles homeward.

I wanted to stop at Sam’s Club for a couple of things, so I decided to use their pharmacy.  Dan decided to stay in the car and wait for me.  It was a beautiful day, and as he put the windows down, I knew he was going to get a short nap in before the drive home.  As I handed the authorization for my meds to the pharmacist, she told me it would be about twenty minutes.  So I left her to her job, and went off to find the other things on my list.  The store was filled with many shoppers as it was a couple days before Easter.  As I smiled at a few people around me, it occurred to me that I probably looked pretty goofy with only half of my mouth working!

Several minutes later, my shopping completed, I returned to the pharmacy counter.  As I paid for my medications, the gal said I would also get a completely cooked Cornish Hen from the deli with my purchase.  Huh?  A chicken with my pills?  I laughed out loud, and commented that it seemed a little random!  She assured me it was the special of the day, and told me to stay right there and she would be back.  She was true to her word, and brought back a delicious smelling, fully cooked bird, all wrapped up for the taking.  No cost, because I was a first time customer at the pharmacy!

Out to the car I went with my purchases.  Dan woke up as I put the warm container through the open window, under his nose.  He loves chicken, so he thought it was a pretty good deal.  I have to admit we’ve had a few good meals as it was over five pounds of delicious poultry.  You just never know what is going to happen when you go off to the dentist!

On a totally different note, I want to invite any women in the area to the Water Lilies fifth annual SPRING FLING!  It will be held NEXT WEDNESDAY at the Fulda Pool, from 7:45-10:00 A.M. There is no cost for guests that day, and you don’t have to know how to swim!  It will be a great time of enjoying the warm water, laughter, some exercise, mixed with friends, food and fun.  It is a great time to come and see what the time of water exercise is all about.  Wear your swimsuit and bring a towel.  There will be door prizes given after the swim time during the  brunch that will be prepared just for you!  ( I don’t think there will be any chicken, but I can guarantee it will be delicious!) If you have any questions, please call  507-425-2204.
