Joy in the Journey 8-29-2018

On Tuesday, Sept. 4th, at 7:00 P.M. the Maple Lawn Pink Ladies will be meeting once again to begin the fall duties and plan for the monthly services that they provide the residents of the home.  I would like to personally invite any women in our community to come and visit the meeting to see if you might be interested in becoming a “Pink Lady”.  Monthly meetings are held the first Tuesday each month, except for July and August.   The September meeting will be in the dining room of Maple View Estates, and visitors and new members are always welcome to come and check out what is happening.

These women are ambassadors from the community to Maple Lawn Nursing Home.  It is  a volunteer organization that helps with special events held at the home each month.  Bingo, Birthday parties, and Visiting Days are provided for the residents every month of the year.  Pink Ladies oversee these events while bringing added fun and encouragement to the people of the home.  In addition, there are special events planned for holidays, along with a personnel party including a salad luncheon put on just for the staff of Maple Lawn.

While being a part of this organization lets you be involved in the fun activities and monthly meetings that are held, it also offers the opportunity to enjoy time with other women in our community.  The women who choose to serve in this way are welcoming and willing to share the responsibilities whenever someone can’t be present or has to change a time of volunteering.

Even though this group of ladies has been making an impact on our local nursing home for many years, we are always looking for new members.  As you can imagine, each year a few women have to step down due to health or age related reasons.  It certainly is a worthwhile group of ladies that bring added sunshine to the residents each month.

If you think you might be interested, but want more information, please call me at 507-360-4579.  I would love to hear from you.

Another local organization that needs your help is Hospice of Murray County.  They are gearing up for their annual rummage sale which will be held beginning Sept. 18th through that week, at the Murray County Fairgrounds.  The week before the sale, it takes many hands to collect, sort, and set up things for the sale.  Maybe you are good or even experienced at this kind of work!   If you would like to give a few hours of your time to help out this great cause, give Mary a call at 507-836-8114.  She would be glad to explain what help is needed.

However you help out someone around you, your corner of the world needs you!   If you are in a season of your life that you have some extra time to share with others, please consider being a volunteer.  The blessings will be all around you, giving back to you.
