Jenni Kirchner, Murray County EMT, was lured to Jackpot Junction in Morton under false pretenses. “I was told the ambulance was getting an award I needed to represent them,” shared Kirchner. In reality it was she herself.
Kirchner was called to the stage and presented with the Emergency Medical Technician of the Year award by the Minnesota Emergency Medical Services Association. “I had planned in my head some things to say on the ambulance service.” The organization had been holding a conference there and concluded the event with an awards ceremony on Saturday, September 14th.
Call time was difficult to navigate for Kirchner though. Literally, up until the day before, she hadn’t found anyone to cover the call shift over the time frame she was going to be out of town.
Husband, Jason, was also in on the surprise so had made arrangements to cover the Stonegate Orchard. Jenni is quick to give credit to Jason stating, “He’s on call when I’m call because our children are not old enough to be left alone.” Adding, “He has to put up with me when I come home broken, tired, and beat down from this type of work.”
Career, role modeling, community dedication and service are all listed amongst the criteria in order to be nominated for this prestigious award.
