Letter to the Editor from Dee Telkamp

Citizens of Murray County,

I am sure that it will come as no surprise that I give my full support to my husband, Steve Telkamp as he runs for re-election as Murray County Sheriff.  Approximately 5 1/2 years ago when my three kids and I moved to Slayton, Steve’s commitment as Sheriff was very apparent.  I was amazed at the number of people who would stop and chat with Steve when we were out and about in the community.  This occurrence was common not only in Slayton, but in every city in our county.  For those of you who have spent any time with Steve, you also know that it is typical for him to receive phone calls day and night, weekdays and weekends.  He always takes the time needed to listen, advise, help and talk to those who ask.  Being the Sheriff requires dedication 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year.  Steve and our family know and accept the fact that being the Murray County Sheriff is not only a job or a career….it is a way of life.

Steve is a very good man who is dedicated to his family and friends, he is committed and active in our parish and with youth ministry in our church and he cares deeply about his law enforcement family. Since filing for re-election, Steve’s character and performance have been criticized and evaluated, but despite the public negativity Steve has remained calm and composed and has put forth a professional campaign based upon his strengths and experience. I encourage you to vote to re-elect Steve Telkamp next week in the general election.  Most importantly, regardless of the election results, I want to express how proud I am of the work that Steve has done in our county, the connections he has made with so many citizens, the dedication that he has for his staff and the leadership that he shows day in and day out.

Sincerely,

Dee Telkamp
