Dear Editor,
I’m writing this letter of support for Paul Kenney for Murray County Sheriff because many of you in the county may not know him as well as we do in Fulda. I’ve known Paul Kenney professionally for 20 years. I met him when I first became mayor of Fulda in 1998. The council was so impressed with Paul that, two years later, when our police chief resigned we promoted Paul to chief. We have never regretted that decision.
Chief Kenney has worked well with city councils and the public and is well-like and respected in our community. He is calm and fair, but can be direct and firm when necessary. Chief Kenney brought a much-needed stability to the Fulda Police Department. In the 1980s and early 1990s, there was turmoil and controversary. With his leadership and style, the complaints diminished and all but disappeared. The once busy Fulda Public Safety Commission barely has a reason to meet any longer.
Paul has a good sense of humor and is at ease around people. He has a calm straight-forward approach which tends to diffuse many potentially volatile situations. Paul also has skills as an administrator and has handled all departmental issues quickly and fairly.
During Chief Kenney’s 18 years, he has seen many changes in the city council but builds relationships easily. He attends the city council meetings and responds quickly to any council requests or concerns. He always presents a reasonable, affordable and timely budget to the city.
You will not regret electing Paul Kenney as Murray County Sheriff. I encourage Murray County voters to give Paul Kenney serious consideration in this upcoming election. He is a good man, a commendable law enforcement professional and would make an excellent sheriff for Murray County.
Sincerely,
John Maertens, Fulda Mayor
