To the citizens of
Murray County,
Thank you for allowing me to be your county commissioner for the past 12 years. I decided last year that it was time for me to retire.
During my 12 years in office we have built a new addition to the law enforcement center, upgraded equipment, and added new technology annually. The sheriff’s budget 12 years ago was $1,000,000 per year and is currently at $1,500,000.
The Commissioners have “never” cut the sheriff’s budget or personnel, even once, in the last 12 years. This information can be verified at the Auditor’s office. I personally have never been involved in any discussion of cutting the law enforcement budget or personnel. The Sheriff’s Office has great employees and I admire the work they do, but I find myself extremely disappointed in Sheriff Telkamp’s behavior.
I was born and have lived in Murray County all my life. We have raised our five children here. Two have decided to call Murray County their home and raise their children here. My wish for them and their children is to live and work here and be happy. Isn’t that what you want for your families too?
We have a choice on August 14. There are three new candidates running for sheriff. I urge you to vote for one of them. Murray County deserves a sheriff who treats “everyone” with respect.
Gerald Magnus
District 3
