Local bowling alley under new ownership

Bowling has long been not only a past time but also competition. The local bowling alley in Slayton has recently changed ownership. Jim and Sandy Gertsema handed over the keys to Pete and Krista Beerman as of September 1st.

Gertsema’s are thrilled someone is willing to take over the Broadway Bowl and have vowed their assistance as the transition moves forward.

The six-lane well-kept, retro bowling alley and cafe will continue to provide great food and great memories.

Pete Beerman gave a huge shout out to the Gertsema family for all of their time, help, and friendship in the process. “They have done an amazing job of offering a great space to bowl throughout the years, right here in Slayton. I am deeply thankful for their willingness to offer such amazing assistance and knowledge over the course of this coming year.”

When asked what prompted Beerman to want to take on such an endeavor he commented, “Part of it is because there is a real need for things for families to do in the area and we really don’t want to see more things leave town.” Although it may seem like a huge commitment, Beerman explained Jim and Craig Gertsema have offered to stay on as his maintenance personnel. During that process the two will be helping Beerman learn the in’s and out’s of maintaining the lanes of the bowling alley.

Beerman has plans to keep the alleys open all year long instead of just the fall and winter months. “We hope to be creative and come up with different events to promote the use of the lanes.” They also see the business as a way of bringing more community people together.
