Fulda Police Chief, Paul Kenney, has issued a warning to area resident about the America Mega Millions Lottery scam. He said, “A local resident received a $6,000 check through the mail from America Mega Millions Lottery. The information included instructed her to cash or deposit the check and then they would send out her millions of dollars that she had won. Once someone cashes or deposits that check, they have your banking information and your money is gone.”
Chief Kenney said that the check received by the local resident looked very authentic and included a watermark and all of the other security markings needed.
“I want to remind everyone to remember that no one really gives away free money. I also want to remind everyone about the Publishers Clearing House and IRS scams that are out there, too. The IRS will never contact you through a phone call. If anything looks suspicious at all, please don’t hesitate to call your local law enforcement,” Chief Kenney stated.
The number for the Fulda Police Department is 507-425-2111.
Although this incident occurred in the Fulda area, it is probably happening in other localities throughout southwest Minnesota. If you receive any mail, or phone calls, promising free money, please call your local law enforcement agency.
