The first high school baseball and softball games were scheduled for this week, and the weather has cooperated. But, due to the corona-virus pandemic, no events are happening.
In a normal year, the high school track and field season would be well underway as the transition from indoor meets to the great outdoors usually occurs in April. This, however, is not a normal year. It’s different from anything we have ever seen before.
Currently there are 18 events held at high school track and field meets in Minnesota. That’s 18 for girls and 18 for boys. No wonder meets take so long.
It hasn’t always been that way.
Let’s take a look back at how meets used to be and find out when certain events were added (or subtracted) from the schedule. Over the years, there have been lots of changes.

What year do you think was the first state meet in Minnesota?
How many years was there just one class?
What was really unique or special about the three years of 1973, 1974 and 1975?
