Marquardt, Renneke advance to state golf meet Boys earn runner-up team trophy

The Heron Lake-Okabena-Fulda Coyote boys golf team will advance two individuals to the Minnesota Class A golf tournament. Heading to Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker will be juniors Peyton Marquardt, and Cory Renneke. The winning team and top five individual golfers (not on the winning team) advance to state.

Scores from the second day of the Section golf meet, held on May 30 in Worthington, were added to scores from day one to determine final results.

Marquardt finished in fourth at the conclusion of the two-day section meet, shooting 87 on the second day to bring his two day total to 180 (day one total of 93). Renneke also improved on day two, carding 86 for a total of 184 (98 on day one).

Sophomore Tyler Madison dropped eleven strokes for day two, finishing with 193 (102, 91).

Senior Ben Sheldahl and Sophomore Joe Fischer each finished the two day tournament with 209. They reversed each other’s scores, with Sheldhal carding 104 on day one and 105 on day two, and Fischer coming in with 105 then 104.

Sophomore Ethan Koep concluded the Coyotes’ scores, shooting 114 and 108 for a total of 222.
