Scoring five runs in the bottom of the second inning, crossing the plate three times in both the first and third frames and finishing with two more runs in the bottom of the fourth, Murray County Central ended the high school fast-pitch softball season for the Heron Lake-Okabena / Fulda girls last Thursday (May 23), earning a 15-0 playoff victory over the Coyotes.
The game was rescheduled after being weathered out on a miserable cold, windy and wet day on Tuesday, May 21. The contest was an opening round game of the Section 3A South Tournament and was played on MCC’s home field in Slayton.
The host Rebels were the tournament’s second-seeded team and they utilized an excellent pitching performance by senior veteran Amanda Muecke to keep the seventh-seeded Coyotes in check. Muecke struck out four, walked only one and gave up just two hits as she twirled a five-inning shutout.
