Having moved up from ninth to fourth in last week’s Class A girls cross country state ranking, the combined Murray County Central and Fulda Warriors traveled north to the Madison Golf Course and did what they have been doing all season — finishing first as a well-balanced team.
Running on a hot and very humid day last Tuesday, September 17, the Warriors impressively won the team title of the Lac qui Parle Valley / Dawson-Boyd Invitational. MCC / F’s girls topped the 10-team field with a low score of 33 points (1-4-5-11-12), putting three finishers among the top five-and all five scoring runners in the first 12.
“The girls, again, ran great as a team,” summed up Warriors’ head coach Dominick Damm. “We had good runs from all seven varsity girls, including a season-best performance by Brylei Schreier, who stepped it up and was our fifth finisher.”
Morgan Gehl, Minnesota’s second-ranked Class A girl, won her fifth consecutive race of the season, completing a shortened 4,000-meter course (2.5 miles) in 15:04.51 — finishing 44 seconds before Canby / Minneota’s Grace Drietz, the state’s sixth-ranked Class A girls’ cross country runner.
