A strong finishing kick by senior Lukas Stapek moved the ever-improving Murray County Central / Fulda cross country runner into 19th place — ahead of 100 finishers — at the 17-team Dragon Invitational at the Adrian Golf Course last Tuesday, October 8.
Stapek’s time of 18:50.4 over the 5,000-meter distance was the best performance of any of the Red Rock Conference runners entered in the meet.
Finishing close to Stapek — as the fourth best among conference finishers — was junior Maverick Beckmann who placed 26th with his time of 19:05.1.
“Both Lukas and Maverick ran up close to the front in a very competitive field,” summed up Warriors cross country coach Dominick Damm. “I thought they each competed well and had good finishing efforts.”
Running in just his third meet of the season as he continues to work through an early-season injury, senior Justin Clarke was MCC / F’s third finisher at Adrian, running a 66th-place (60th in the team scoring) time of 20:34.1. Clarke won the Red Rock Conference Meet last season and later qualified for a third straight individual advancement to the state cross country meet.
