All of the excitement of Election Day was vibrating through the hallways of Fulda High School on Monday as the Government Class, taught by Principal Gregg Slaathaug, held a mock election in anticipation for Election Day 2016.
The 7th through 12th grade voters had previously registered allowing for the registration process at the polling station (set up near the west doors near the gymnasium) to progress smoothly. As they stated their names, election judges highlighted that voter’s name on a class list, ensuring that they would not be able to cast their ballot more than once.
Each student was handed a 2016 Fulda Public School Election ballot, and then stepped over to the bank of voting booths to await their turn.
Once the ballot was marked, it was placed in the ballot box and the voter received a sticker that stated, “I VOTED”.
“This has been a great learning experience,” 18 year old Kade Clarke stated. “By going through the voting process here, when I get to the polling place to vote tomorrow, I will definitely know what to do.”
Government Class members worked as officials at the polling place, some counted ballots, while others were keeping tallies going on the white boards in the Government Classroom.
