Murray County Commissioners approve improvements to A.C.E. building

The Murray County Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, June 4th. A lengthy discussion took place regarding improvements to the A.C.E. building. Earlier this spring the building suffered damage to the interior due to ice dams. Tri State General Contracting submitted a proposal for repair work as recommended by the insurance company. Commissioners Gunnink, Kluis, and Welgraven questioned the idea of doing the repairs inside when issues with roof leakage continue. Commissioners Thiner and Jens said they had been in the building and claimed the water puddles on the floor were minimal. Thiner did feel the roof needed attention at some point, however felt the more immediate need was to do the repairs inside. Thiner and Jens felt the majority the leaking problem was contained to the storage area. Commissioner Gunnink raised the question whether the contractor could possibly find the leaking source and put a temporary patch there of which Thiner and Jens felt was possible. Thiner’s biggest concern was to try and find a contractor available to do the roof at this point and time. In speaking with the contractor, Thiner said their primary concern was going to be the food service area and the rest might happen later. According to him, if approved, they could begin work within a couple of weeks. Commissioner Gunnink asked if the roof could be put out on bids, not putting a deadline on it, so contractors could possibly work it in between projects. Commissioner Kluis stated, “If it was my building I would not spend one dime on it until the roof was fixed.” Commissioner Welgraven shared his concerns with the amount of money it’s going to cost to fix the building up. “Maybe there’s something else we should be looking at?” Commissioner Kluis agreed it was going to be expensive however explained the location is ideal – especially for food trucks to unload with the large parking lot.
