Murray County Commissioners approve preliminary levy

The Murray County Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, September 24th. The consent agenda was approved with additions and minor corrections were made to the minutes of the prior meeting. The board questioned auditor-treasurer, Heidi Winter, on the transfer of funds to SAWS, which, according to Winter is basically a loan to cover expenses and will be paid back over time. Approval was given for the courts building pay application five.

Verlin Brouwer appeared before the board during the open forum portion of the meeting. He shared his concerns with the Soil and Water’s regulations being placed on his property. Brouwer was directed to work with that department as the board has no authority in regards to their work or regulations. He was also given direction to share information with ditch inspector Travis Radke.

Justin Koch, emergency manager, presented a resolution for the board to approve to adopt a Murray County Mitigation Plan. He explained FEMA has conditionally approved the plan and now calls for the Murray County Commissions formal adoption. Koch has also sent out resolutions to each of the cities and other public entities in Murray County as well. Once each of the entities has returned their approved resolution the plan will be re-submitted to the State of Minnesota as well as FEMA for formal adoption. It is a five year plan with Koch explaining the process will need to be done again in approximately three to four years.
