The Murray County Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, June 19th. One of topics at hand was the position of coroner. Sheriff Telkamp had been serving in that capacity, however, as a result of the commissioner’s request for his resignation, that position has been in limbo.
Recently Dr. McGee held a training session in which six members including Brian Christensen, Josh Malchow, Jenni Kirchner, Paige Moser, Thomas Whitehead, and Paul Kenney attended. The Commissioners chose to hire them as intermittent employees in the Medical Death Investigator position. MCIT did suggest making them county employees to cover any liabilities for insurance and the county has also offered to cover any damage that may happen while on duty to their personal vehicles. The position will filled on a rotating schedule much like the ambulance. The position, effective June 12, 2018 is hired at a labor grade 11, step 5 being the hourly rate for training and scheduling, an on call rate of $3.50 per hour and a $200.00 flat rate (for up to 2 hours) for response to a death scene with any additional hours paid at a labor grade 11, step 5. Chris Lewis was hand questioning why the commissioners were willing to pay $30,600 a year that involves 15-16 calls a year when Sheriff Telkamp did this service for free.
