The Murray County Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday May 7th. Amongst the agenda items were the approval of commissioner and auditor warrants along with one ditch repair bill. All were approved. A donation from the Friends of the Murray County Parks organization (which is now dissolved) was accepted in the amount of $398.78.
DNR representatives came before the board in a public hearing setting with a request for County Ditch 76A for the impounding, rerouting and diverting waters and partial abandonment.
Kevin Nelson spoke during open forum in regards to a property the board is possibly considering for the potential new highway building. Nelson said he knew the land they are considering across the section from him is considerably cheaper. He explained this property would require all equipment to go around the section. “I don’t what you were quoted for water, sewer, etc. but if it’s a matter of a difference of $50,000…divided out over a period of years that’s really only a $1,000 per year. Can you afford to drive those trucks and graders around the section for a $1,000? Within a few weeks, you’d burn that much in fuel. It doesn’t make sense to put it on the back side.” Nelson explained he had purchased land across the road for him and paid $1,000 more per acre just because of the convenience. “I talked to Jim (Commissioner Kluis) and he said the same thing…you buy because of convenience.”
Discussion took place regarding repairs to the ACE building. With contractors currently extremely busy, it has been difficult to find someone to do the work. The commissioners held discussions regarding possibly just replacing the ceiling tile for now so it outwardly looked more presentable. Commissioner Kluis felt it was important to replace the roof before anything else is done. Of which Commissioner Jens replied, “The roof doesn’t leak, it was the buildup of snow this winter that caused the leaking.” Commissioner Gunnink requested some specs on the project as she may know of a contractor who might be willing to take on the project.
