Heath Landsman, emergency management, appeared before the Murray County Commissioners giving an update on cleanup efforts. Landsman explained the outlet structure at Lake Elsie has been located. According to him the intake was probably in at least 8-10 feet of water, however, couldn’t be seen because of the rocks hiding it. The structure had two large rocks on top of it and it was also noted the cage surrounding it is missing. Crews are hoping to be able to get in there to remove the rocks and do any repairs necessary. They should be able to access the location from the back of the Highway 59 auction lot. In addition Mike Riley had been doing camera work and believes there’s an obstruction somewhere, however, hasn’t been able to locate it yet. The commissioners voted to quit pumping as the water has cleared the tipped fuel barrel. If pumping continued the county most likely would be liable for the additional expense at $700/hour. Commissioners commented the reason the county started pumping the area was because of concern of a fuel barrel being overturned in the water and possibly leaking – thus creating an ‘emergency protective measure’. Landsman explained there will be a crew at Ampride early next week to drill a hole in the barrel, drain it of the fuel and put it upright again. Landsman also informed the board that Minnesota SEMA representatives were present at the 4-H building meeting with township, city and county officials recording their damages as part of the FEMA disaster request.
Heidi Winter appeared for approval to pay $14,190.18 in ditch bills as well as presenting the warrants for the board’s approval.
