Music Making Continues on at Fulda High School

Hello, Fulda folks! This is your friendly neighborhood band and choir director Matt Saxman writing to you. When I first heard we were going to be having schools closed for a few weeks in March, I knew there was a fair chance that we wouldn’t be back in school this year – and with that, all of our normal spring music activities would also not be possible. Concerts, contests, community activities would likely all be postponed or cancelled. In fact, in those last two days we had with the students in school, we were meant to have our Spring Band Concert on that Monday, and Large Ensemble Music Contest for both band and choir on the Tuesday.

When I knew those events wouldn’t be happening, I quick thought ahead and had the students play through all of the music they had been practicing up to that point since our last performances around the holidays, and video recorded them. They are not perfect, as it was a bit rushed to get them together and all done in two days, but I was able to capture all of our bands and choirs, and even our excellent percussion ensemble performing some joyful music. These videos have now all been posted online. They can be viewed at our FHS Band & Choir Facebook page – facebook.com/fuldahighschoolband, and click the video tab on the left, no sign-up or account required. There are also many more fine musical performances from earlier in the year and past years on the page! I hope watching them can bring you some joy – not being able to have any music concerts at the school this spring has certainly left a hole in my heart, but it is nice to go back and watch those and remember how much fun it is to work with the kids and make music together.

The exciting thing is, the music hasn’t stopped!
