With an abundance of numbers — a huge increase over last spring — the newly-formed high school girls’ fast-pitch softball team, combining Heron Lake-Okabena and Fulda, is looking forward to the upcoming season with three games scheduled for next week.
Tuesday’s heavy snowfall, however, will likely put a damper on those early games as forecasted cold temperatures for the rest of the week will not melt much of the snow cover. An earlier scheduled game at Springfield (March 27) has already been postponed.
The Coyotes are scheduled to play at Windom Monday (April 9), host Adrian on Tuesday and host Red Rock Central / Westbrook-Walnut Grove on Thursday (April 12). HL-O / Fulda will play its home games at Okabena.
Guiding the combined first-year program is first-year head coach Janae (Vonk) Kazemba, a 2012 graduate of Southwest Star Concept (SSC) High School, who played second base for the Southwestern United Wildcat varsity softball team over her four-year career from 2009-2012 when SSC (Heron Lake-Okabena) and Round Lake-Brewster were paired as a program.
