Nobles County Commissioners discuss feedlot ordinance language revisions

The Nobles County Commissioners met on Tuesday, May 7.   The highlights of the meeting were:

The Commissioner presented Jose Soto, Case Aide, with the Excellence in Performance Award for “representing the County and the Agency in such a positive manner…it is clear to see he loves his job” (taken from the nomination form).

The annual update from the Heron Lake Watershed District was presented by Jan Voit.  She touched on the grants and projects that were received and worked on during 2018.  She also informed the Commissioners on the pending and potential grants for 2019.  It was requested by Commissioner Widboom to get the Watershed board together with the Commissioners for a round table discussion, possibly later this summer.

The Commissioners discussed the feedlot ordinance language revisions.  The distances remained the same for Rural and Population Centers.  Added to the ordinance was Church or edited place of worship and cemeteries outside of corporate limits with a setback of 3/8mile; County Parks, setback 3/8 mile up to 1999 AU, and 1 mile for 2000- 5000+ AU; and Maku-Oicu and Fury’s Island, setback of 1/2 mile up to 1000 AU, then 1 mile.  Language was added that allowed feedlots with no setback when putting on own residence, any residence on the farm where the feedlot is located, or any residence owned by a family member of the applicant.
