Using an 8-0 run midway through the second half, the fifth-seeded Hills-Beaver Creek Patriots opened up a 37-23 lead and then held on down the stretch to claim an exciting 50-47 victory over the fourth-seeded Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda Coyotes in the quarterfinals of the Section 3A South high school boys’ basketball tournament last Saturday (February 29) at Worthington.
H-BC (9-15) advances to the next round of the tournament tomorrow (Thursday) when it will take on top-seeded Southwest Christian in Worthington, while HL-O/F — which had just defeated the Patriots 78-61 in the regular-season finale on February 21 — finishes the year with an overall record of 11-16.
