Post office officials did a hurried job of unloading the mail truck Monday morning when it rolled into Avoca with a fire burning in the rear. The truck left Windom en route to Ruthton with several stops along the way. As it backed into the Avoca post office the fire was noticed. Officials reported 15 bags of mail with damage of varying degrees. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The State Department of Education and the Minnesota State High School League took the following action: NO public school shall hold any extra-curricular activities during the Holiday vacation period from December 22nd to January 7th. This includes athletic games, practices, concerts, contests or meetings – student or adult – for the two-week period. “The school facility will be closed to all activities during the Christmas break,” stated Alex Fisher, School Superintendent.

Hank Lenards took first place in the hula hoop contest held during the “Fifties Days” contest at the Fulda High School with his neck trick. Tom Pittman showed his agility underneath the limbo bar and the cheerleaders dressed in high fashion right down to the Saddle shoes.

Dora Hardekopf passed away on December 1st at the age of 92 years old.
Julia Cosgriff passed away on December 2nd at the age of 99 years old.

The new sewer lift station has been installed and is working well. The lift is located at the south end of Lafayette Avenue.

Santa Claus visited Fulda last Saturday.
Fulda Women of Today present “Lights of the Week” contest to show honor to residents displaying beautiful holiday lighting.
The Chandler/Hills windfarm project is complete with three wind turbines 65 meters high. The turbines are part of the Wellspring Renewable Energy Program.
The Minnesota Highway Patrol was called to an accident on US 59 in Avoca on December 3rd where a 1980 Peterbuilt tractor truck driven by Kenneth Clarke, was involved in an accident with a 1977 Chevy Impala driven by Erna Niehaus. Niehaus was transported to the hospital. The Impala was declared a total loss.
