60 years ago

Thursday, January 1, 1959

Services held on Monday for Herman Schnuur, 66, who died at his home on December 26.

Mrs. F. Meyer was honored on Sunday for her 92nd birthday by family and friends.

Norma Westcoat and Vernon D. Pinz were married in the Richards Gebaur Air Force Base chapel on December 23rd.

Mrs. W. A. Sellman passed away on December 28th at the age of 92 after suffering a stroke.

Mr. and Mrs. Emil Sell are happy to announce the arrival of a baby boy born Christmas day at the Westbrook hospital.

Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hermeling announce the arrival of a baby boy born December 26th in Slayton.

The Big Red Apple Dance is being held in Avoca on January 5th. ALL Red-Headed Women get in free to dance to the 6 Fat Dutchmen.

The number 1 New Year resolutions for 1959 –  I will drive in an alert, courteous, and sane manner.

Notice: A reward of One Hundred Dollars will be given for information leading to the apprehension, arrest, and conviction of the parties who caused the damage to the houses in the Village of Fulda on the evening of December 25, 1958, by breaking the windows.

Wed., January 4, 1989

The Fulda Police Department is investigating the scene of a break-in at the Nobles County Co-op Company which took was discovered on January 2nd by an employee. Miscellaneous merchandise was taken along with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Harold Haar is retiring from his position at the Fulda Post Office after nineteen years of service.

Terry Morrison is adjusting to his new duties as administrator at New Dawn.

Featured in Fulda High School Senior Profiles are Luke Odenbrett, Julie Kramer, and Shannon Crowley.

Bullhead Feed to be held at the Korner Tap in Dundee, MN on January 6th.

Citizens of Tomorrow include Ashley and Kelsie Thiner, William and Kristina Martens, and Candace and Easton Laackmann.

Ida Peddycoart passed away on December 31, 1988 at the age of 89 years old.

Curt and Lisa Brinkman are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Crystal born December 29, 1988. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. E.M. Brinkman and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Voltz.

Dan and Kris Fischer are the parents of a girl, Shannon, born December 25, 1988. Grandparents are Walter and Eileen Kopp and Harold and Ardell Fischer.

Margo Polzin and Craig Ahlers are engaged to be married. A January 21st wedding is planned.

Wed., January 6, 1999

John Maertens was sworn in as new Mayor for the City of Fulda by Dee Swan, City Clerk. Sitting on the Fulda City Council are Tim Strenge, Dave Thiner, Ken Clarke, and Ron Kellen.

St. Paul’s Lutheran School recently received $4,000 from Lutheran Brotherhood through the Member Matching Gift program.

The Fulda Game and Fish Club were extremely excited with the catch netted this past Thursday. The group is preparing for this year’s annual Fish-A-Rama.

The year 1999 came in like a lion! The storm began New Years Eve dumping more than a foot of snow across the area. Saturday brought the cold temperatures and high winds bringing the wind chill to, what felt like, 50 below zero. While Minnesota experienced blizzard like conditions, the lower half of the nation was the center of powerful winds and tornadoes. According to the KSFY meteorologist Patrick Griesgraber there are ‘another couple of systems’ headed our way!

We might have just begun 1999, but many are worried about the year 2000! Is your PCs and “Y2K” ready? The problem that might be encountered is the computer may see the new year, “00”, as 1900 instead of 2000.

Helen Goering will be celebrating her 90th birthday with an open house on January 9th.

Michael Deuschle is happy to announce the birth of his sister Kennedy born on his fifth birthday, December 27, 1998.
