Moving snow…since the age of 9 years old…Roger Gerber estimates he removes snow, on average, for 115 people each season. Hired on a phone call, many of those people he never sees…he, and his friend, Sparky, just keeps the sidewalk and driveway clear and receives a check at the end of the year. “A great way to do business,” he says, “on a hand shake and reliability.”

There are no strangers to Sally and Fritz Heger – to meet them is to become their friend.  Together they shared stories of past deeds, accomplishments and yes, even sadness with our readers.

The Fulda City Council has appointed Vern Pals to replace Rex Wordelman. The term will run until the November election. Others considered for the vacancy were Steve Voss, Larry Schindler, Mike Nangle and Vern Olson.

The Fulda School Board held an informational meeting on the 10 mil referendum needed to keep the current programs going with the District.

Arthur Wenzel passed away on December 31st after a long illness at the age of 82 years old.

Bernice McCormick passed away on December 30th after being ill since January at the age of 55 years old.

Helen Schuster passed away due to injuries from an automobile accident on December 22nd at the age of 51 years old.

The Fulda City Council hears from concerned residents on some unanswered questions about the St. Paul Avenue Project and how it would be paid for. The project would cost approximately $839.000 and would be financed over 20 years. The cost would be repaid through the water and sewer bill.

Local fishermen are flocking to the lakes as Perch seems to be the catch of the season. However, area lakes are unsafe according to the Murray County Sheriff Department and the DNR. As lakes are ok for fish houses, seven to ten inches of ice is need to make for safe travel with vehicles on ice.

Stacie Jorgenson joins the staff as a dental assistant with Doctor Brockway’s office. Jorgenson has taken the position vacated by Betty Czepa who retired after 19 years of service to the dental office.

The splendor of the season is upon us as shown in a photo by Sheila Crowley. The ice glistens on the branches of pine trees making for a beautiful winter scene.

Brandon Blesi, a 1989 graduate of Fulda High School and the son of Diane and Fred Zemler, Fulda, recently received the manager of the year award from Taco Johns food chain in Minneapolis. Well Done.

Monte Kuehl and Susie Wilmot announce their engagement. A March wedding is planned.

Bryon and Bev Spittle are proud to announce the birth of their son, Brendan born on December 19th. Grandparents are Voris and Sandy Spittle.

Delores (Ramert) Lukasik passed away on January 1, 1998 in Miami, Florida.

Stephen Arends passed away on December 29, 1987 at the age of 67 years old.

Louse Betha Schumacher passed away on January 1, 1988 at the age of 82 years old.

Richard Lee Overlees, passed away on December 23, 1997 at the age of 57 years old.

The Fulda Raider boys capture second place in the Windom Holiday hoops tourney held last weekend.

Elected officials salaries were discussed at the Murray County Commissioners meeting with Jim Johnson, recorder, Ron McKenzie, sheriff and Gary Spaeth, auditor/treasurer given a six percent increase. It was made clear that elected persons DO NOT have sick days or retirement plans nor are the compensated for overtime.
