Thursday, Dec. 1, 1966

The Village Election will be held on December 6th with Harold Haar running for clerk, Marvin Heinrichs running from trustee, Frank Kuehl campaigning as a write-in and Joe Schindler and Leo Leinen running for constable.

A corn picking bee was held at the Theodore Olson farm on Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Olson was recently hospitalized with a ruptured blood vessel.

Lions clubs are holding a Peace Essay writing contest open to those 14 to 22 years of age. Winners from the Fulda area will be submitted to the Lions District 5M5 level of judging. Grand prize is $50,000.

The Fulda Raiders opened their 1966 basketball season with a 51-50 win over Lakefield. Mike Stewart made a final seconds free throw leaving the score in Raider favor. Leading the scoring was Rick Wendorf with 22 points and Bob Haberman with 11 points.

Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Salentiny are the parents of a son, Steven, born November 21st. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. John Salentiny.

Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Ommen are the parents of a son, Michael Jeffrey, born on November 22nd. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Dillion Grothe and Mr. and Mrs. Andy Ommen.

Leaders of Tomorrow include Thomas and Cindy Ehleringer, Kevin and Glenn Olson, and Michael and Dean Dierks.

Caroline Horn, 79, passes away in Greenwood, Wisc.

Mrs. Etha (Tong) Everett, 64 died November 17th in Bloomington, Illinois after a short illness.

Dorothy Anderson and Robert Prahm were married at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Avoca on November 19th. The couple plans to make their home in Slayton.

Carolyn Radick and James Rasmussen were united in marriage at Centenary Methodist Church in Mankato on Nobember 13th. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raeburn Radick of Fulda.

Thursday, Nov. 27th, 1986

The Summer Festival has officially been renamed “The Wood Duck Festival” to coincide with the “Home of the Wood Duck” proclamation recently made by Mayor Mary Magnus. The dates have been set for June 11, 12, 13.

Fulda Independent Coop members have re-elected Orrin Clarke and Dwain Evers to their board of directors.

The Fulda Schools Board of Education made a motion and it was carried to accept the resignation of Principal Mischke with regrets. The Board thanked Mr. Mischke for a job well done. A special meeting will be held to set up guidelines for the selection of a new principal.

The State of Minnesota’s Department of Natural Resources disclosed the plans for a new fishing pier to be placed on Fulda’s lake in early May of 1987. The pier will be accessed by a 6×16 foot bridge which extends from the shoreline footings to the pier, allowing the 68×40 foot pier to ride up and down with the water level. A Good Faith agreement with the City of Fulda calls for the city to keep the pier clean and make minor repairs.

Kristan Groenewald and James Weidert announce their engagement. A January wedding is planned.

A unit on Artificial Insemination and its importance in improving area beef and dairy herds was covered in a vocational agriculture class at the Fulda High School this week.

Citizens of Tomorrow include Kacee and Justin Pals, William and Kristina Martens, and Jennifer and Rebecca Kaufman.

Mr. and Mrs. Darryl Sandhurst are proud to announce the arrival of a son, Thomas born November 19th. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Everett Oolman and Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Sandhurst.

Wednesday, Nov. 27, 1996

Round three of power outages — after getting electricity restored to Nobles and Murray County last Wednesday, as promised, power outages were abundant during the next few days due to additional ice on the wires caused by more freezing drizzle.  In all about 150 Nobles Cooperative Electric linemen were out working to restore power.

Maple Lawn Nursing Home was recognized as one of three finalist for the 1996 James B. Swanson Award of Excellence at a ceremony held November 20th in Minneapolis. Maple Lawn was selected as a finalist because of the excellence of its programs, the dedication of the staff and the high standards of service.

The “Christmas Corner” has opened in former Heinrich’s building on Fulda’s Main Street. Jim Nelson and Larry Van Grootheest have brought in real Christmas trees and Poinsettias for just $10.50 each.

Teresa Clauson and Erin Elder were married on June 15th at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Fulda.

Irma Schwantes has compiled 50 of her Reminiscing Columns into a book and will hold a book signing on Friday afternoon at the Cafe in Fulda.

Todd and Wendy Gehl are the parents of a son, Randy born November 19th. Grandparents are Delmar and Joyce Gehl and John and Judy Teske.

Barb and Les Engler, Jr. are proud to announce the birth of their son, Alec, born November 17th. Grandparents are Janet and Leslie Engler, Sr. and Ardell and Harold Fischer.

Rose Hurlbut, 86, died on November 17th at South Shore Care Center  in Worthington.
