Gayle Heinrichs is the local winner of the Fulda Lions Club essay contest and will represent Fulda at the Lions International’s Peace Essay Contest.

Diane Raatz and Richard Sellman exchange vows on December 16th at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Avoca.

Mr. and Mrs. Leo Crowley are the parents of a son, Daniel, born at the Slayton Memorial Hospital on December 28th.

Funeral services were held on Monday for Fred H. Smith who passed away on December 30th at the age of 79 years old.

Marshall John Dickson passed away at his home on January 1, 1967 at the age of 79 years old.

Raymond Klute was laid to rest in Worthington on December 26th. Mr. Klute passed away on December 22nd at the age of 53 years old.

Manhatten Wind Quintet to appear in Slayton on January 5th.

Ted Winter gets early start on agenda in the Legislature.

Fire department responds to two  calls this week. On December 24th the call came from the Lloyd Winter farm where Mr. Winter was burning down an old building which got out of control. The department cooled down the other buildings to keep the fire from spreading. The second call came on December 29th to the Richard Boehnke farm where a grass fire had gotten out of hand. The Fulda Fire Department contained the blaze.

The 103 member Fulda Raider Marching Band left last Friday morning in route for the Feista Bowl Parade in Phoenix, Arizona.

Flag to fly for Herman Defries this week at the Murray County Courthouse.

Citizens of Tomorrow include Travis and Adam Sauer, Eric and Jeremy Crowley, and Ryan and Katy Harder.

Peter and Theresa Blumer are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Katie, born on December 25th.

Sheila Gehl and David Bos were united in marriage at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fulda on December 13th. Reverend Gary Clayton officiated at the ceremony.

Sara Luehmann passed away suddenly on the evening of December 26th while visiting her grandparents in Fulda. Sara was 9 years old.

1996 comes to an end – a year of progress as reported by Candace Hup.

Santa was busy on Tuesday trying to prepare the way for his journey as he assisted the Fulda City street crew in clearing the piles of recently accumulated snow fall.

VFW Post 9017 celebrates their Golden Anniversary on January 5th.

Make a difference day held on December 20th with high school students and faculty spreading holiday cheer around the community.

Kim Evans and Michael Clayton have announced their engagement. A February wedding is being planned.

Maple Lawn celebrates December birthdays honoring Emma Lilly, Bridget Bockenstedt, Ann Gehl, Elaine Koehn, Gert Durnan, Emma Schnurr, Eleanor Kass, and Susanna Sollinger.

Jon and Jill Wisdorf are the parents of a boy, Austin, born December 14th. Grandparents are Tom and Sally Sauer and Lorraine Wisdorf.

The Fulda girls basketball team captured the Jackson Holiday Tournament this weekend.

The Warriors traveled to Sioux Falls for a tournament and saw Randy Schettler return home with the championship in the heavy weight class. Receiving second in their class were Philip Clarke, Brian Ackerman, John Klein.
