The voters of Murray County, for the second time in six months, turned down the proposal of building a new courthouse 1495 yes to 2184 no.

James Malters was the recipient of dual awards at the recent science fair held in Mankato on Saturday. For his science project ‘Space Travel’ he received a purple ribbon and a trip to Northfield to participate in the State Fair on April 14-15. His project was also selected as the most outstanding in the field of aerospace power earning him the United States Air Force Award.

Damage was done to windows of the Cooperative Store, Saturday night, as burglars took large amounts of merchandise from the establishment operated by Raymond Nelson. The same night the Segar Store in Kinbrae was robbed.

The Fulda Theatre is showing ‘What Did You Do In The War, Daddy’ starring James Coburn and Dick Shawn.

Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Burns are the parents of a son Bruce, born April 1 in Westbrook. Mrs. Elmer Kuehl is the grandmother.

Mr. and Mrs. Karel Kleve are the parents of a son, Kevin born March 31 in Worthington. Grandparents include Mr. and Mrs. Roy Sachen and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Kleve.

Miss Nelda Hagen became the bride of Danny L. Koestler in a double ring ceremony at Grace Lutheran Church of Primghar on March 18th.

The Raider Speech team won the District 8 speech contest held on March 31 in Fulda.

Linda Busch Martens was accidentally fatally shot on Sunday, April 5. She leaves behind her husband, Thomas and two children, William 5 and Kristina 2.

The Fulda Wood Duck Festival is set for June 11-14.

Garbage rates were increased at the Monday night city council meeting. The cost at the Murray County Landfill has increased $1.25 per compacted yard. The increase passed on to the customers will be an additional 65¢ per month.

Fulda Clean Up Days have been set for two Saturdays – April 18 and 25.

Debbie and Phillip Holinka are proud to announce the arrival of Justin born March 26, 1987. Grandparents include Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Jacobson, and Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Holinka.

The Fulda School Board met in special session last Tuesday to discuss the need to cut $80,000 from the budget. Suggested cuts included the full-time social worker position, 10 days from the band program, 15 days from the school counselor position, a reduction in staff development eduction, and the elimination of two-sixth hour contracts due to lower student numbers, reduction in travel budgets, elimination of one assistant wrestling coach, and the cutting of a library position. The board also looked at the possibility of raising the registration fee and/or upping the admission fee for all events. The action on these possible budget cuts will be taken at the April 15th meeting of the board of education.

In 1937, an organization of hunters, concerned about vanishing wetlands, banded together under the name Ducks Unlimited to begin conservation efforts. Today, (1997) Ducks Unlimited works hand in hand with the Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife to protect the rich wetlands from extinction.
