The Fulda Fire Department was called out twice on Friday.

The first call was to the Ben Wisdorf farm where a lamp, laying on a mattress, heated up enough to start a fire.

The next call was to the Wm. Sauer farm where a fire originated form a tractor in the shed attached to the barn. The gas from the tractor apparently exploded while Mr. Sauer was in the house getting a fire extinguisher to stop the slightly smoking heater on the tractor. The barn and the tractor were a total loss.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Freetly, while on their way to Washington and Oregon to visit relative, hit an icy patch and went off an embankment landing 45 feet from the top. Mrs. Freetly suffered two broken vertebrae and is hospitalized. Mr. Freetly was treated and released.

Dittman Bros. of Dundee have been named Champion Corn Grower in Murray County by the Farmers Hybrid Seed Corn Company of Hampton.

HM3 Dwight Koning was wounded in action on December 4 near Quang Nam Vietnam. He received fragment wounds through and around the left knee from an enemy explosive device while on patrol.

Mr. and Mrs. John Jans are the parents of a son, Kelly, born December 7th. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Barrett and Mrs. Edna Jans.

Mr. and Mrs. Burdette Krueger are the parents of a daughter, Laura, born December 7th. Grandparents are Mrs. J. L. Green and Mr. and Mrs. August Krueger.

Funeral services were held for Louis A. Breit, 74 on December 5th.

Last Rites held on Saturday for Leona Fitzgerald who passed away on December 6th at the age of exactly 53 years old.

Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1987

The Fulda Boy Scouts presented Darrell and Willie Kilker with a plaque for all their years of service and help to the Scouts since 1975.

A theft from Maynards is under investigation by the local police department where an undisclosed sum of money was taken from the back room on December 11th.

The Fulda City Council has hired a new policeman; Erick Youngblood will start full time on January 1st.

Students at the Fulda Elementary School enjoy sledding on the mound of fresh snow in the playground during recess.

George and Ella Lober celebrate 50 years of marriage with an open house on December 26th.

Teri Bair and Randy Wisdorf were united in marriage on September 5, 1987.

Lawrence Jensen passed away on December 9th at the age of 73 years old.

There have been numerous burglaries in Nobles County in the past few months. With a total of ten, three of the burglaries have been in the Fulda vicinity. Residents are advised to keep their house and garage doors locked and to report anything out of the ordinary.

Students in Mr. Carroll’s, Mr. Sandberg’s and Mrs. Crowley’s sixth grade classes collected food for Project Charley.

Erin Arthurs and Sterling Holmes were united in marriage on November 1, 1997 at the University Lutheran church in Grand Forks, N.D.

Anna Gerdes passed away on December 3rd at the age of 97 years old.

Teresa Fuerstenberg passed away at the age of 90 years old on December 3rd.

Adolph Gunderman passed away November 5th at the age of 90 years old.

Paul and Bobette Greenfield are the parents of a boy, Alex born November 28th. Grandparents are Alan and Jeanie Greenfield and bob and Patty Nale.

Boy’s basketball returning letter winners include Tom Meyeraan, Jeff Baumgartner and Sam Langford.

Girl’s basketball returning letter winners are Becky Hup, Sarah Wendoff, Emily Kramer, Katie Bolton, Nancy Grandgeorge and Heather Uttech.
