Voters express approval of the school bond issue to remodel and repair the elementary school building with 238 yes and 193 no votes.
Interstate Power Co. to install new lines in the Catholic and Presbyterian church areas at a cost of $3,500.
Funeral Services for Pete Haar held Friday afternoon. Haar, 71, passed away on April 7th at his home.
Firemen’s dance will be held April 11th.
Several fires occurred in the area this past week; Friday a field fire at Bill Kuehl farm spread in a hurry, on Saturday a tractor fire at the Neal Gerdes farm needed attention and on Monday a rubbish fire threatened the Rex Wordelman home.
Baskets of yellow and orchid gladioli banking the altar of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Heron Lake provided the setting for the marriage of Mavis Bruns to Donald Vanderheiden on April 4th.
Betty Pollak, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry W. Pollak and Emil Czepa Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Czepa were married at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Fulda on April 4th with Rev. Paul Hodapp officiating the double ring ceremony and nuptial low mass.
Mrs. Emil Haberman passed away March 29th after a battle with liver cancer.
The number one cause of car breakdowns in 1958, according to the American Automobile Association (AAA), was car battery and electrical failures. AAA reports 60 million car breakdowns in 1958. “We have yet to understand the mystery of why some men are perfect gentlemen at home or in the living room of a friend and yet turn into bullies once they are behind the wheel.” – Harry Sieben, Minnesota Highway Safety Director.

Pat Uittenbogaard was officially sworn in as Fulda’s first female Postmaster during a ceremony on April 7th.
St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Dundee is scheduled to close in 1990 according to the Diocese of Winona. Needless to say, parishioners are very upset.
Raymond and Twyla Goedtke are honored as Nobles County Outstanding Farm Family of the year. Ray and Twyla have farmed near Fulda for 35 years.
Congratulations to the Fulda Speech Team, and their coaches Judy and Gary Holden, who won the District 8 Title Again!
Three Fulda High School students participated in Scholarship Competition at Drake University. There were 2,065 students from 198 schools participating with the average score was 86, however the boys were all above average; Tim Larson scored a 146, Kirk Clayton a 120, and Roger Koopman a 115. The boys being juniors and sophomores plan on trying for the Drake scholarship again next year.
Kirk Johnson, fourth-year computer engineering student at the University of Minnesota, Duluth, College of Science and Engineering, recently received the Bert Getsug Memorial Scholarship of $1,000.
Maria and Alan Ahlers are the parents of a girl, Alexa, born March 28th. Grandparents are Jim and Mary Ahlers and Ed and Mary Weiss.
Dan and Lynn Witzel are the parents of a boy, Tyler born April 7th. Grandparents are Ralph and Lorraine Witzel and Marlow and Winnie Anderson.

Faye Kramer and Clayton Gehl were united in marriage on November 19, 1988 at First Presbyterian Church in Fulda.
Funeral services for Mitchell West, 29, were held on April 6th in Granite Falls, MN.
Ethel Childers passed away on April 6th at the age of 84 years old.
Anna Janssen passed away on April 2nd at the age of 88 years old.
Marion Berglund passed away on April 2nd after a lengthy illness at the age of 66 years old.
John Murphy passed away on April 3rd at the age of 90 years old.
Carl Carlson, 90, passed away on February 18th.

The Murray County Youth and Family Task Force will hold a workshop to help people deal with change with sessions on Y2K, Environment of Change, a Neighborhood Network and Been There – Done That.
Lee Cobrun, a former Fulda resident, has published a book titled Runaway Father, which depicts a man left in confusion and fear due to a sudden divorce.
Fulda Speakers, Kelli Isder, Liza Knorr and Heidi Uttech will attend the State Speech Contest at Park High School in Cottage Grove on April 16th and 17th.
St. Paul’s Lutheran School children compete at Art Festival held at Martin Luther High School in Northrop, MN.
