Area residents are reminded of the Miss USA contest to be held in New Your City this Saturday evening. Fulda’s Becky Bunkers is the Miss South Dakota contestant. Becky’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. John Bunkers.
Board of Education election results for Independent School District 505; Don Stewart 237, Robert Horn 202, Ray Kramer 193, Gary Carlson 179, Lloyd Dierks 78. The top three will fill the open positions.
Cadette Girl Scouts are holding weekly classes on bicycle safety called “Better Bike Brigade for the Brownie Scouts.”

Bernice Drealan retires after 32 years of cooking for elementary school children; sixteen years at St. Gabriel’s Catholic School and sixteen years at the Fulda Public School.
Maple Lawn honored the volunteer Pink Ladies with a program on Friday. The talent the residents had to share was abundant; Irene Bruns told a story about a fish monger; Ethel Lawson, Emma Sundermeir, Ann Bolk and Alvina Weinzetl performed a Dutch Dance; Dorothy Balfanz and Evelyn Vogel sang a few Dutch songs and Alice Magnus told of her trip to Holland.
The Honorable Governor Rudy Perpich, along with the Minnesota Youth Service Initiative, announced Fulda Future Homemakers of America will be recognized for their Peer Tutorial program on March 19th. Anne Bunkers and Dana Dierksen will travel to the State capitol to accept the award on behalf of the FHA chapter.
Fulda’s girls track team won the last event of the day, the 1600 meter relay to come from a 1 point deficit to win the Section True-Team Championship last Tuesday at Jackson. The Raiders nipped Slayton 81-79 as Julie Kramer capped a perfect day by anchoring the relay team to victory in 4:18 running after Jenny Aanenson, Dulcey Kuehl, and JoLynn Kunerth.

The St. Paul Avenue project is well underway with all asphalt lifted and an 8” PVC water main being run down Front Street. St. Paul Avenue will remain open for traffic until the next phase of construction begins. At that time, Fulda businesses will be offering back door access and parking will be available in the alleys and down side street. The progress of the project depends largely on the weather.
The Fulda City Council received 4 bids for the new water well No. 6 ranging from $49.300 to $35,411. Traut Well from Waite Park was the winning bid. The piping and electrical portion drew two bids with the low bid of Spartz Well Co., Iona at $8,032.80.
Fulda Memorial Day observance to be held on Monday.
El Nino strikes again as lightning kills two horses last Friday. At around 3:00 p.m. a bolt of lightening struck a field owned by Barry Blanchette containing a pony, four quarter horse mares, a filly and two geldings. A five year old quarter horse gelding and the Paint filly were killed by lightening strikes.
Winning the sixth grade Grandparents Essay contest were Eric Janssen writing about his grandpa Walt and Annette Kremer writing about her grandma Donna.
Seven Foreign Exchange students gathered on Sunday to say farewell as they return home as the school year comes to an end; Cassio Curchatuz, Brazil, Pello Landa, Spain, Pavel Tilser, Czech, Alice Leigraf, Germany, Manuela Garcia, Spain, Tinatin Chichagua, Russia, and Ainara Garcia, Spain.

Darci Bruns achieves her Gold award status in Girl Scouting the highest award within the Girl Scout organization.
The family of Jack and Margaret Wisdorf have donated a sign for the front of Maple Lawn Nursing Home and Mapleview Estates in honor of their parents.
Celebrating birthdays at Maple Lawn Nursing Home this month are Priscilla Hakeneis, Anna Volk, and Mary Chevalier.
Velma Betz, age 77, formerly of Fulda, died on Tuesday at her home in New Ulm. Funeral arrangements are pending.
Marion “Mike” Hulstein passed away on May 14th at the age of 77 years old.
