A deal was made here this week whereby Merle Nelson of Windom bought the Opdahl Heating and Sheet Metal business. Mr. Nelson, his wife and five children expect to move to Fulda the middle of June.

B. A. Beckman has leased the Hanson building in Avoca where he will operate a cabinet shop, as well as repair furniture and do woodwork.

The Junior class at the Fulda High School is sponsoring a Junior Prom for those students in the 7th, 8th, and 9th grade on May 19th.

The Junior/Senior Prom will be held on Saturday, May 16th.

Mr. and Mrs. Francis Heger were surprised on their 45th wedding anniversary by family and friends.

Colleen Willemssen and Thomas Odenbrett exchanged vows at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church on May 9th. The couple will make their home in Worthington.

Mr. and Mrs. Bert Sellers are happy over the arrival of a baby boy, born May 12th. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Fuerstenberg.

Richard Bender dies at Rice Lake, Wisconsin on April 18th.

Mrs. Agnes O’Brien passed away on Monday at the age of 81 years old.

‘Oh, What A Night!’ It was a night to remember for all in attendance as the Fulda Junior/Senior Prom took place this Friday evening. Not only did the students enjoy the grand march and the dance but also the after party filled with games and snacks.

Lowell and Cindy Meier are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Adrienne born May 15th. Grandparents are Harold and Betty Harr.

Jim and Wendy Buschena are happy to announce the arrival of a daughter, Kristin born May 11th. Grandparents are Leroy and Lois Lorenzen and Roland and Shirley Buschena.

The Fulda boys track team took second in Section True Team 187 behind Slayton 208.

A supplement congratulating the Class of ‘89 on graduation is included in this issue.

The crew of Larson Crane have returned to Fulda to put the final coat of pavement on St. Paul Ave. Access will be limited for the reminder of the week.

The city council approved the house to house check of sump pumps and tile drainage program.  Also approved was a beautification project using flowers and signs along St. Paul Avenue present by  Heidi Drealan and Marcine Elder.

The Fulda Elementary 5th grade class collected pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House in Sioux Falls, SD throughout the school year. In helping the Ronald McDonald House the students also helped the family of Kade Clarke who was born with hypo classic left heart syndrome. Kade’s family was able to stay at the House while he spent time in the hospital.

Walking in the March of Dimes WalkAmerica in Worthington along with 32 other teams were the Fulda Girl Scouts, Eighth grade girls basketball team, the Fulda Reading Club and the Fulda Women of Today. The Girl Scouts raised $227.25, Basketball Team $287.00, Fulda Reading Club $328.50 and the Fulda Women of Today $591.00.

Grandparent Day Essay winners were Max Eckerson, Emily Baumand, Alicia Peterson and Eric Zins.

National Law Enforcement Week celebrated with a Bar-b-q pork supper served by the Fulda Police Department.

Irma Schwantes, Lucille Bestge, Teres Dardis and Ruth Amundson were among the 850  Minnesota TOPS members attending the State convention in St. Cloud. Ruth Amundson

The Minnesota Twins held a Youth Baseball Clinic in Worthington on Friday.

St. Paul’s Lutheran School Pre-Kindergarten graduation was held this week with 13 boys and girls receiving certificates.

Awards Day held at the Fulda High School on Friday.

Timothy Biren will be ordained at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, Winona, Minnesota on June 15, 1999.

Robert Spartz Sr. passed away at the age of 75 years old on May 11th.

Jennie Pram passed away on May 12th at the age of 88 years old.

Orville Asleson passed away at the age of 80 years old on May 14th.

Carroll Erickson passed away on May 12th at the age of 77 years old.

Trachtenkepella Elters Rhon is returning to Fulda in July as part of their 1999 USA tour.
