Pupils and teachers in 19 of Murray County schools have helped wipe out tuberculosis in their communities by participating whole-heartedly in testing programs.

Seven candidates have filed to fill the two positions open on the Fulda School Board; Ray Crowley, Fred Behr, Harold Nelson, Robert Kolander, Charles Stock, Al Winter and Clarence Magnus. Election is set for May 17th.

Lanoue’s Recreation holds Bowling Tournament – call for appointment.

“Wheel Way” corn planting saves farms as much as $100 in equipment operating costs and spring planting time.

Student Government Day held at the Fulda Public School with students entering the rolls of teachers as well as principal. Next year the students hope to extend the program to include superintendent, mayor and other town offices.

Fred G. Enninga rites were held Friday at the Immanuel American Lutheran Church at Pfingsten. Mr. Enninga had been ill with cancer for over a year and passed away on May 3rd.

Mrs. Christine Neilson, 83 passed away Monday evening.

The history of baseball in the 1940s is shared in this issue. A highlight mentioned was the May 10th game when the Fulda Giants hosted Mankato. The game was played at the new Lighted Park on the Fulda ball grounds.

District 20A Representative Ted Winter announced he will seek re-election to the House of Representatives.

Elaine Segar shares her memories of growing up and living her entire life in Kinbrae.

The Fulda Lake Preservation Club has completed its work on the dam for the fish rearing pond to stop the erosion.

The Fulda Area Lake Preservation Corporation to hold it’s fifth annual “Fulda Fishing Derby” on Sunday. Categories include Walleye, Northern Pike, and Sunfish/Bluegill.

Mark Koster has been named a State FFA Poultry Production Proficiency award winner from our region at the convention held in St. Paul.

Fulda Wood Duck Festival to be held July 14th, 15th and 16th.

Raider boys take first at Sentinel Relays; leading the pack with first place finishes were Kris Clausen, 300 Intermediate Hurdles, Roger Koopman who vaulted to 10’, and the 3200 relay team of Todd Kirchner, Brad Carroll, Ryan Kuehl and Chris Biren.

James Brady is honored as Resident of the Month at Maple Lawn Nursing Home.

Kevin and Caryn Raddle are the parents of a baby girl, Samantha, born May 6th. Grandparents include Barb and Larry Raddle and Dr. P. L. and Joan Collins

Diane Bloomer and Brian Hulstein were united in marriage on February 17, 1990 at the Belgrade United Methodist Church in North Mankato.

Sigrid Hansen and Duane Holtrop announce their engagement. An August wedding is planned.

Clarence Schweigert passed away on May 4th at the age of 72 years old.

Funeral services were held on May 7th for Reka Tiesler who passed away on Friday.

Susan’s Southwest Kennels – is it a dog’s dream come true or a cat house? Susan enjoys taking care of your pets while you are gone.

Fulda and Avoca residents were treated to an official break in the day on Thursday thanks to a power outage. Alliant Energy determined that a large black bird infiltrated the sub-station outside of town just in the right place. Problem solved.

Fulda Fire Department responds to little Brian Walther who was injured when his hand became stuck in the family van door. Brian is recovering at home after have surgery on the fingers of his left hand.

The Fulda Fire Department also responded to a call at the home of Larry Schindler where there was a combustion fire under the sink.

Eric Sandhurst has been chosen to attend “Legion Boy State” at St. Olaf College Campus, Northfield by the American Legion Emil King #318, Fulda.

Fulda Police Department to host hog roast in honor of National Law Enforcement Week. The Department includes Brian Gass, Jason Schultz, Paul Kenny, Tom Whitehead, Kevin Niemann and Mike LaRock

  Prairie Ecology Bus teaches Fulda students about the wetland areas. Fulda students enjoyed learning about footprints, bones, nests, and of course skat.

Selected to All-State Band were Anthony Duerr and Kelli Isder.

Conservation poster winners  include Kristen Buschena, Ethan Jones, Wade Herrmann, Travis Bremer, Christine Clausen, Julia Jimenez and Korey Kelly.

The Fulda FFA Chapter holds it’s 60th annual awards banquet.

The Fulda golf team improved to 8-1 on the links with Liza Knorr and Abby Oakland each firing 44’s.

Diana Grandgeorge wins the javelin competition at Howard Wood.

Blanca Boom and Lane Struyk were married on March 25th in Sheldon, Iowa.

Sara and Loren Heintz are the parents of a boy, Nolan, born April 13th.  Grandparents  include David Golisch and Alvin and Arlene Heintz.

Robert Nepper, age 59, passed away April 29th.
