Last week Leo Zins, Murray County Parks Chairman, received word from the United States Department of Interior announcing the formation of a county park between Fulda’s first and second lakes on the west side of the channel. The park will be called Seven Mile Lake Park, contain two shelters, picnic tables, changing house, rest rooms, kittenball field, horseshoe court and firepits. The park is made possible by an $11,000 grant from the Federal Government and $5,500 from the State and County.

Richard Slieter has resigned as administrator at Maple Lawn Nursing Home. Beginning his duties as administrator this week is Douglas Nelson of Litchfield.

A new county deputy will be hired with the requirement that he must live in Fulda. Currently all deputies and the Sheriff live in Slayton. The new deputy would cover the Avoca and Fulda areas and would be under the authority of Sheriff Orville Muck.

By action taken by the Minnesota Legislature young people who are 18, 19, and 20 will now be considered adults and will be allowed to legally drink in Minnesota.

Rich’s Clover Farm offering Jenos Cheese Pizza in a box for 49¢; bananas for 10¢ a pound; and the amazing, newfangled potato chips called Pringle’s for 49¢ a can.

The marriage of Carol Busch and Stephen Naumann was solemnized Saturday in Brewster at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Glen Pearson officiating.

Sue Fincel announces her engagement to David A. Czepa. No definite wedding date has been set.

Mary Bertrand and Chuck Knollenberg announce their engagement. No definite wedding date has been set.

Birdie Chapa passed away at her home on June 1st at the age of 84 years old.

Emma Mannie, 75, former Dundee resident, passed away on May 28th after having surgery 3 weeks ago.

Albert Krueger passed away on June 4th at the age of 60 years old.

Mother Basil, who taught school seven years at St. Gabriel’s in Fulda and eleven years in Currie  died on May 27th in St. Paul, MN.

Nine year old Crystal Firese is the winner of the Better Speech and Hearing Month Poster Contest for the state of Minnesota. The contest is held by the Minnesota Society for the Prevention of Blindness and Preservation of Hearing organization.

Wayne Hulstein, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marion (Mike) Hulstein of Fulda, uses his IBMXT 286 computer and accompanying sound system to type his lecture notes in braille. Wayne is a psychology instructor at Willmar Community College.

Marv’s Our Own Hardware has been awarded a 75 year Certificate for playing a leadership role in the hardware industry.

Cleone Schindler and Roy Schoon announced today that Summer Youth Programs are underway in the county. Job applications have been collected through school since March.

Julie Kramer qualifies for the State Track Meet after winning the 800 and 1600 meter races at region.

Mr. and Mrs. David Thill announce the birth of a girl, Jennifer, born May 26th. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Dale  Brock and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Thill.

Conservation poster winners were Jessica Gengler, Matthew Hakeneis and Nancy Overman.

The Fulda Police Department, Fulda Ambulance and the Cottonwood Drive-in are promoting the use of bicycle helmets.

The Fulda street construction project continues be running on schedule with crews using bulldozers to pull the gravel away from the sidewalks throughout the week.

The Fulda International Club, a group of local residents, has created friendships abroad through traveling in Europe and inviting European bands to the community. A group of club members plans another trip in August of this year.

The Fulda Boy Scouts prepare to leave for the annual Boundary Waters Canoe trip. Matt Schrieber, Adam Humphrey, Lucas Kramer, Chris Hawkinson and Mat Kremer will be accompanied by Roger Wildfeuer, Dan Hawkinson, and Bill Schrieber.

Colleen Gengler celebrates 25 years as extension educator.

Steve Klassen produces his 10th painting to be raffled off at the Fulda Wood Duck Festival raffle drawing.

Monica Andert and Jacob Kirchner announce their engagement. An August 1, 1998 wedding is planned at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Currie.

Marvin and Maxine Heinrichs will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house on June 21st.

Kermith and Elsie Gustafson will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house on June 13th.

Rose Bremer is honored as Resident of the Month at Maple Lawn Nursing Home.

Jeff Baumgartner takes second in the high jump while Nancy Grandgeorge places fourth in the 100 meter hurdles at the State Track and Field Meet in Blaine on Friday.

Last Saturday, a bus load of residents from the tornado destroyed community of Comfrey came to Murray County to see how two cities dealt with the destruction of a tornado as they visited Chandler and Lake Wilson.
