Fulda Summer Festival buttons on sale now…buy one for your chance to win $100.00.

Summer school program  to begin on Monday and will run from 8:30 to 11:30 each day. Classes offered will include mathematics, reading and language arts as well as business, music and recreation.

Swimming lesson registration to be held on Saturday with classes beginning June 19th.

Father Andrew D. Olsem, newly ordained priest, will offer a First Mass in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Dundee, his native Parish.

Robert G. Koehler will assume his duties as County Agent this week.

Children entering the 5th grade and their parents are invited to a beginners band meeting Tuesday evening. Mr. Wright, the Band Instructor, and a representative of the Fairmont Music Co., will be on hand to answer questions about instruments.

Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Freetly are proud parents of a baby boy which was born June 1st. Grandparents include Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Freetly and Mr. and Mrs. Michael Garofalo.

The Fulda VFW Post is sponsoring a Scotchlite Campaign this Friday evening. All bicycle owners are encouraged to ride to City Hall to have Scotschlite applied to their bikes.

Mrs. Frank Lehnhoff, whose death occurred June 3rd, was laid to rest on Tuesday at the age of 76 years old.

Neva Patterson passed away June 2nd. Neva was the sister of Mrs. Walter Freeland.

Tena Paplow passed away June 3rd after being a patient at the Windom Hospital for two weeks. She was 83 years old.

Funeral services for Julius Clausen, 87, whose death occurred Monday morning were held on June 7th in Dundee.

Wood Ducks become hobby of Del Koopman. About seven or eight years ago Del became fascinated with wood ducks as he watched a momma and her babies waddle down the street. He began putting up houses in his yard including three on one pole creating an apartment cluster. Del was able to, easily watch and learn about the wood ducks and their habits from his own home. He is a true naturalist and a field biologist and is eager to share what he has learned about the habitat of the wood duck.

Ted Winter returns to the area after attending his first Legislative Session where he worked on the tax bill.

Ron Kellen brings forth idea to have a Farmers Hall of Fame which would be devoted to the recognition of individuals who have contributed to farming as a way of life.

Fulda FFA members construct a new ‘Welcome to Fulda’ sign.

Robert Klein and Joe Serrao will be attending the Washington Conference for FFA members in June.

Mr. and Mrs. Morris Anderson of Avoca will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on June 14th.

Kim Rogers and Judson Meyer were married May 9th at United Church of Canada, Calgary, Alberta Canada.

Lyle and Elizabeth Ruesch announce the arrival of Melissa born June 4th. Grandparents include Walter and Minnie Ruesch and Arlen and Lois Stensland.

Tony and Pat Vondra are proud to announce the birth of their daughter Angela born June 1st in Worthington.

The Pabst Beer Wagon pulled by a four-horse hitch comprised of Percheron Draft horses will appear in the Fulda Wood Duck Festival parade this weekend sponsored by Holinka Distributing.

‘Clowning Around’ is the theme of this year’s Wood Duck Festival to be held June 20, 21, and 22.

Fulda Electric aids flood victims in Grand Forks, North Dakota were high waters traumatized homes and businesses. Nearly a month after the flood waters began to subside, a muddy mess remains. The homes that have not been condemned are left without sanitation and electricity.  The Minnesota Electrical Association organized a relief effort. Taking part were Rod Loosbrock, Don Welling and Kris Clausen who made the trip to Grand Forks on Friday to assist local electrical contractors.

Charlie Brockway organized tree planting near the lagoon as part of his Eagle Scout project.

Graduation held Friday in Fulda.

Irma Schwantes, Fulda Free Press writer of Souvenirs, received a diploma from the Fulda High School along with the 1997 graduates as she achieved her GED.

Greg Otkin and Kelly Ramerth announce their engagement. An August wedding is planned.

David and Mary Blanchard are proud to announce the birth of a son, Levi born May 25th. Grandparents are Glen and Phyllis Doeden and Walter and Carol Blanchard.

Advancing to State Track competition are Jeff Baumgartner in the triple jump and high jump, Tom Braun in the long jump, and Nancy Grandgeorge in the 100 meter hurdles.
