Behind the superb pitching of Delly Koopman, The Fulda Giants defeated the highly rated Balaton ball team with a score of 6 – 0. Koopman, who pitched the last two ball games, had 15 strikeouts against Luverne and 19 strikeouts against Balaton, which is a record that will be hard to beat .

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church will dedicate a new Pipe Organ to the Glory of God on July 16th, ten years to the day after the first letter of inquiry was sent off to Wicks Organ Company of Highland, Illinois.
An accident involving a deer and two vehicles occurred on Sunday on Hwy 59 between Avoca and Fulda causing extensive damage. A 1984 Chevrolet was northbound and struck the deer cause it to go through the window of another vehicle that was southbound. The driver and passenger of the second vehicle were taken to the hospital – treated and released.
For Maynard and Vi Larson community involvement comes naturally. The latest in a long list of sharing with others and in appreciation of their love for the parks system, the Larson gifted the Murray County $20,000 to be used for park improvements.
An infestation of grasshoppers are a problem for farmers this year. In some place soybeans are showing a 40% leaf loss. Controlling the grasshoppers is a concern for farmers, commissioners and the Department of Agriculture.

Fulda’s link to Germany holds strong as members of the Elters-Rhon Band visit the area spending time with Fulda residents who once traveled to Fulda, Germany.
FLA/FCCLA members atended the National FHA/HERO meeting in Boston last week. Making the trip were Jason Kirchner, David Lund, Tyson Elder, Chad Kremer, Philip Kirchner, Gretchen Enninga, Laura Zins, and Heather Uttech. They were joined by Advisor Marcine Elder.

The Life Saving Award was presented to Jeff Boerboom and Rick Like by Sheriff Kottom during the Murray County Commissioners meeting this week. The two men are commemorated for the assistance they gave Bertha “Dolly” Wornson after her car plunged into Summit Lake at Hadley on April 17th. Because the water was below freezing they could not return to shore. The trio remained on the car roof until help arrived. All three spent time in the hospital for treatment of hypothermia.
The Region VIII North Welfare Dept. will change it’s name to Lincoln, Lyon, & Murray Human Services effective July 1, 1999.
