About 800 old and abandoned vehicles in Murray County will be victims of the cutting torch before this summer is over. The project is being managed by County Engineer Elaire Jerome and funded by the State Pollution Control Agency. Any Murray County resident wishing to have an abandoned car picked up should contact the highway department.

If you have happened to see a happy-go-lucky man of about 40 riding a Honda through the streets of Fulda the past week it is none other than Father Olson, the new pastor at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church.

Tonight’s concert in the city park bandshell will feature Marie Davis  with her Stylings on the piano. The senior high concert band will play briefly as well.

Friday evening Mr. Don (Carol) Phelps had the misfortune of having a freak accident. While riding in a boat on Lake Okaboji a strong gust of wind caused her to fall overboard and she was struck by the propeller blade. She spent the night in the hospital with a severe cut on her leg.

Mr. and Mrs. James Graves are the proud parents of a son, James, born July 3rd. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Reith and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Graves.

Nellie McPhee passed away June 23rd at Summit Manor at the age of 81 years old.

Winifred Minehart passed away at the age of 79 years old on June 25th in Slayton, MN.

The Trachten Kapelle Elters/Rhon band from Fulda, German enjoyed their time in Fulda, MN. Highlights included performing during Wood Duck Festival; staying with their host families; and the welcome party held at Holinka Distributing hosted by Chuck and Trudy.

Karen Aune and Roger Zins announce their engagement. An August 13th wedding is planned.

Jim and Pam Fargen are proud to announce the arrival of Ashley born July 8th. Grandparents are Steven and Joanne Arends and Patricia Fargen.

Lori and Bob Mickelson are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Kelly, born June 30th. Grandparents are Dorothy Reker, Ray Reker and Marilyn Mickelson.

Rick and Colette Beckman are proud to announce the birth of a son, Jared, born June 28th. Grandparents are Walt and Rose Beckman and Ron and Delores Cantral.

Tim and Nancy Jans announce the arrival of Joshua born July 11th. Grandparents are John and Joyce Jans, and Rose and Walter Gehl.

Mae Kruger Gohr passed away June 19th after attaining the age of 85 years old.

Ada Lubben passed away at the age of 65 on July 4th after a lengthy illness.

After four years of discussion, Dundee will receive rural water through a program called Water 2000 set up by the State Rural Utilities.

Doug and Cathy Steinmetz family enjoy raising and breeding show-quality Weimaraner dogs. The Steinmetz children show the dogs at the fair through 4-H. Some of the pups have been sold to other families as well.

Mark Tupper, CenturyTel representative, accepted a plaque depicting the First Dollar of Profit earned by the company. Presenting the plaque were Tom Probst, Deb Appel and Mavis Schipper.

Shar Ebbers is the new Murray County Health Alliance Foundation Executive Director.

Larson Crane construction crew continues to work on the water main at the north end of St. Paul Avenue and expects to begin work on the sewer line in the business section this week.

Nicole Lubben and Royal Larson announce their engagement. A July 25th wedding is planned.

E. F. Haberman, a Murray County resident since the day he was born in 1915, is featured in Flashbacks this week as he shares the ‘humor in life’.
