The first week in July found the local public school faculty filled fro the 1959-60 school year. Mr. Vernel Jackels will fill the position vacated by Mr. Cook and Duane Kloempken will take Mr. Handsuch’s place. Also added to the staff are Gertrude Kolander, 6th grade, and David Olson, vocal music.

Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Jarmer are the parents of a son, Larry, born Wednesday, July 22nd.

Mr. and Mrs. Kearn Ward are the parents of a daughter, Lori, born Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Adrian Bodelson are the parents of a son, John, born July 21st.

Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Pederson are the parents of a daughter, Gayle, born July 24th. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Pederson are the grandparents.

Janice Beckman and Burton Levine announce their engagement.

Marilyn Lowe is the bride of James Smith. The couple was married on July 29th at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Fulda.

Tip Ivan Peasley, 70, rites held on Thursday at the Presbyterian Church. Mr. Peasley passed away Monday evening following a stroke and a 2-week illness.

George Meyer, who passed away July 23, rites held at St. James on Monday morning at the age of 68.

John Freetly rites held here on Monday. Mr. Freetly, 85 died at home  on July 23rd.

Elizabeth Odenbrett is honored as Resident of the Month at Maple Lawn Nursing Home.

Susan E. Ware becomes postmaster at Iona.

David Suedbeck has made the air Force a career. David is a 1979 graduate of Fulda High School and the son of Cliff and Dorothy Suedbeck.

Lennon Nelson, who has been a County Commissioner since 1979, feels County decisions should be made on needs, not wants.

Mike Braun and Stacy Kass were chosen as Little Mr. and Miss Dundee during the Nothing Days celebration. Fern Benson and Ruby Stover were honored as Dundee Senior citizen Queens.

Volunteer recognition day was held at the Fulda Meal Site last week with Clowns Barb Bunkers and Sandi Like providing the entertainment.

Vincent and Colletta Tennessen to celebrate their 50th wedding Anniversary with an open house.

Carl and Theresa Buschena renewed their marriage vows for their 61st  wedding anniversary with Monsignor John Keenan blessing the ceremony. The Buschena’s were married in Avoca in 1928.

Dave and Cheryl Thiner are proud to announce the birth of Jacob born July 28th. Grandparents are Raymond and Josephine Thiner and Marvin and Lilen Kulman.

David and Sue Jarvis are proud to announce the birth of their son, Matthew born on July 25th. Grandparents include Darwin and Freda Jarvis and Doug and Gwen Hartlep.

Mr. and Mrs. David Green are the parents of a daughter, Darla, born July 26th. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Olsem and Mr. and Mrs. Loren Green.

Reading to celebrate 100 years with a parade, mud races, craft fair, truck pull, and a street dance.

Fulda School Board approved a one year contract for Kirk Thorstenson as Elementary Dean of Students.

Members of Maple Lawn Nursing Home were treated to an afternoon of reminiscing this past week thanks to Rayanne Sillers who spoke on wedding dresses.

Fulda City Council renews cable franchise with the new company which purchased Triax Cable Co. out to 2008.

Three quotes were received by the City Council for water tower inspection including one which called for a diving team into the water tower. Comparisons will be made and decided on later.

Women of Today to hold Kids Week August 9-13.

Praire Fire Children’s Theatre, with the help of many local children, performed “Alice in Wonderland” to a full house over the weekend.

Heidi Uttech and Jackie Engen attend FLA/FCCLA leadership camp at St. Ben’s Campus in St. Joseph, MN.

Kids ID program to be held at the Murray County Fair.

Travis and Wendy Sievers are the parents of a girl, Alexis, born July 26th. Grandparents are Ron and Gail Gruis and Phil and Marlene Sievers.

Dave and Lisa Lutz joyfully announce the birth of their son, Samuel, born July 2nd. He was adopted into their family on July 4th. Grandparents are Donna Lenards and Bernie and
Roberta Lutz.

Esther Coffitt passed away on July 30th at the age of 90 years old After suffering a stroke.

Henry Vehlow passed away on July 30th at the age of 86 years old.
