  Tow of the new teachers welcomed to the Fulda Schools this year are Miss Judy Rude will teach Home Economics and Mr. Ron Weber will teach Bookkeeping, shorthand and Business Law.

Sgt. William Thurston has been named Outstanding Noncommissioned Officer of the Year in his unit at Hamilton AFB, California.

Bids totaling $329,636 were approved Thursday by the Murray County Commissioners for the construction of a new county court office building. The new, one-story steel frame building with brick facing, will house all court and court-related functions.

Newcomers to Fulda in the past few months include Mr. and Mrs. Michael Rubbelke and son, Mrs. Otto Venenga, Mr. and Mrs. Joel Ramerth and children, Mrs. Anna Evers, Mr. and Mrs. Bill McNab and children, Mr. and Mrs. Randy Larsen and son, Mr. and Mrs. James Morris and children, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Ackerman, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Fielder and children, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Grengs and son, Mr. Walter Horn, Mr. Doug Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Crowley and son, Mrs. Theresa Fitzgerald, and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Lukosik and children.

Kim Goltz and Lynn Wichmann were united in marriage on August 12th at Trinity Lutheran Church, Balaton with Pastor Roger Anderson officiating.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Campell are proud parents of a son, Brian born August 14th. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Vern Lehnhoff.

Gustave Kayser passed away August 22 at the age of 95 years old.

New faces at St. Paul’s Lutheran School this year include Mary Bakke, sixth and seventh grades and Renae Kaelberer, first and second grades.

Fulda High School welcomes Exchange Student Andrea Montoli from Milan, Italy for the 1988-89 school year.

Slayton and Avoca fire departments responded to a call to the home of Weley Dalby in Avoca on August 16th where considerable damage was done to the home. The fire is under investigation – Arson is suspected.

Stop in at Brummel’s Bakery for loaf of German Saurkraut Bread 75¢ or Raisin Fritters 15¢.

David Odenbrett passed away at the age of 46 on August 21st after being ill with cancer for four years.

Carl F. Paplow passed away on August 24th at the age of 80 years old.

Darwin and Terese Kruse are proud to announce the birth of their dauhter, Sarah on August 25. Grandparents are Glen and Janice Roghair and Arnold and Shirley Kruse.

Fulda Schools welcomes Scott Loeslie as new Elementary Dean of Students. Mr. Loeslie comes to Fulda from Warren, MN where he spent the past years teaching 4th grade at Grand Forks Air Force Base.

Craig Hennager, 37, formerly of Fulda, was one of two men injured in an explosion at the Farmers Coop Elevator in Buffalo Lake, MN on August 20th.  Hennager, who was in an underground warehouse on the facility when the explosion took place, was burned on the upper portion of his body. He was taken by air Ambulance to Regions Burn Center in St. Paul where he remains for treatment. The second man injured was Wayne Tupa, 27, of Silver Lake.  Tupa received broke bones and is reportedly in good shape.

Candidates running for Murray County Sheriff are Duane Duis, Dick Kottom, Ron McKenzie, and Ron Stephens.

On Saturday, Larson Crane workmen moved on to a water main on 4th Street from St. Paul Avenue leading west to Ireland which will hook up to an 8” main leading to the Fulda High School.

Emery and Luella Brady to celebrate 55 years of wedded bliss.

Dave and Marie are proud to announce the birth of Olivia Sielaff. Grandparents are Bill and Sharon Fuerstenberg, Barb Welch and George Sielaff.

Winifred Anderson passed away on August 21st at her home at the age of 74 years old.

Gregory Stark, 37, passed away on August 25th as a result of an automobile accident.

Ella Lober is honored as Resident of the Month at Maple Lawn Nursing Home.

Citizens of Tomorrow include Molli, Jalen, and Nathan Getting; Ethan, Cody, and Brandey Jones; and Mari, Michale, and Myah Holinka.

Forty Fulda area residents, ranging in age 17 to 72, traveled together to the country of Germany where they enjoyed touring the countryside, sightseeing and making new friends.
