After many weeks of extremely dry weather, this vicinity received a most welcome rain early Sunday morning. The Fulda area got seven-tenths while Rock Rapids, Iowa got 4.1 inches. Slayton and Avoca received 1/2 inch each.
The local Red Owl Store is running a special feature, beginning this week which will appear along side their grocery ad entitled “Cedric Adams Reporting”. It will contain many interesting and enjoyable items to read.
The Sheriff’s office along with Fulda Policeman Emil Sell are continuing their investigation of a break-in at Ralph’s Auto Service which took place late Sunday night. The”smart” thieves netted approximately $125.00 in change.
The Larson Paint Company from Minneapolis was busy this past week on a ‘clean up and painting’ of the Fulda water tower.
Joe Miller considers himself lucky after hitting loose gravel on a diagonal road on Thursday. While he received only minor bruises the station wagon was damaged quite badly.
Mr. and Mrs. Duane Bloom are the parents of a daughter, Laurie born July 25th. Erick Carlson is the grandfather.
Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Sandhurst are the parents of a son born August 4th.
Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Holtrop are the parents of a daughter born July 28th.
Mr. and Mrs. Dewayne Behr are the parents of a son born July 24th. Mr. Andrew Behr is the grandfather.
Mr. and Mrs. Dick Lawson are the parents of a son born August 1st.
Mr. and Mrs. Russell Eacker are the parents of a son, Bradley born August 3rd. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Magnus.
A. F. Gorder rites held in Wisconsin. Mr. Gorder passed away suddenly on July 6th while on a train near Tomah, Wisconsin.
Rites were held on Saturday at Pfingsten Church for Mrs. Julia Buss, 73, at the Harold Buss home. Mrs. Buss passed away while visiting her daughter in Oregon on July 25th.
James W. Kimball, State Game and Fish Director announced a thirty-day statewide pheasant season to begin October 24th.

Heinie Magnus was the chairman of the Threshing Bee held on Saturday at the Andy Engelkes oats field. A team of horses and a McCormick Deering threshing machine were used in the field located near the Maple Lawn Nursing Home.
Mike Galm, Fulda High School graduate, will soon move to Washington D.C. to begin his in job as the Press Secretary for Iowa Sixth District Congressman Fred Grandy.
The Fulda City Council along with Attorney Larry Lucht plan to review the existing ordinances in phases throwing out the old and obsolete as well as considering new zoning and animal ordinances.
Peacepipe Girl Scout Council announces that Jenny Ackerman earned the Silver Award, the second highest award in Girl Scouting, for her commitment to herself, her community and to Girl Scouting.
Bob and Velma Betz will be honored on Saturday, August 12th with an open house for their 50th wedding anniversary.
Bobbi Jo Swenson and Larry Gunnink are proud to announce the birth of a boy, Trevor, born July 30th. Grandparents are Pat and Bob Swenson and Pete and Mary Gunnink.
Curt and Dawn Ramerth are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Emilie, born August 6th. Grandparents are Jerry and Cleone Remerth.
Marie Schuster is honored as August Resident of the Month at Maple Lawn Nursing Home.
Elizabeth Odenbrett passed away after a lengthy illness on August 4th.
Donald Chepa passed away suddenly at the age of 64 years old.
Mathilda Kuehl passed away at the age of 83 years old on July 30th.

Senator Wellstone to hold ag crisis meetings at the Nobles County Fair and the Murray County Fair.
Cancer survivor Diana Grandgeorge has been chosen as honorary chairperson of the Murray County Relay for Life to be held this weekend. Some ‘donations’ involved more than cash – such as Mike Brignac, First National Bank, who received a new hair cut as a result of the donations his fellow employees raised!
The Nobles County Relay for Life event, which took place on August 3rd, raised over $40,000.
Sweet Corn season is upon us as Laura Lynn Paplow and Tim Haberman make a few bucks selling on the streets last week.

John Webster Jones passed away on July 22nd at the age of 89 years old.
