Thursday, Sept. 10, 1959

Fulda Retail stores will be closing at 9:30 on Saturday Nights due to the return of standard time by the State of Minnesota.

Local schools begin the new year with large enrollments; St. Gabriel’s School enrollment is 226, St. Paul’s School enrollment is 95, the elementary school enrollment is 308 and the high school will have 367 students.

Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Brown had a narrow escape from injury Monday evening, when an unexpected train struck them on Main Street in Dundee. The car, pushed off the tracks was wrecked.

Lt. Colonel Murley A. Reep, State Director of Selective Services, is calling attention to the fact that all young men must register with their nearest local Selective Services Board when they turn 18 years of age.

Mr. and Mrs. Eldo Langfeldt are the parents of a daughter, Rhonda, born at the Slayton Hospital on Friday.

Mr. and Mrs. Dick Hippert are happy to announce the arrival of an eight and one half pound baby boy, born September 8th. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Zins are the grandparents.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Michelau are the parents of a daughter born September 4th in Worthington.

Amidst the setting of beautiful garden flowers, Elaine McKirdy became the wife of Robert Anderson in the Pfingsten American Lutheran Church on September 4th in a double ring ceremony.

Lois Meyer and Leland Poppen were united in marriage in the chapel of the Presbyterian church at Fulda on September 5th. The Rev. Dale Cunningham officiated.

Karen Rae Landers and George Coffee exchanged vows on August 14th at St. Martin’s by the Lake Church, Minnetonka Beach.

George Tolzin, brother of Henry Tolzin, died Tuesday, September 1st in Volga, S. D. at the age of 82 years old.

Services were held Tuesday, September 8th for Clarence G. Speckmeier who was killed on Friday when his tractor tipped over, and pinned him beneath it. Mr. Speckmeier would have been 33 years old on September 12th.

Fred Jarmer Rites held on Monday in Dundee on Monday. Mr. Jarmer passed away on Saturday, September 5th.

Wednesday, Sept. 13, 1989

Marcus Svennson of Sweden to attend school in Fulda this year as an exchange student.

POW-MIA Freedom Walk to be held on September 17th. The Walk will begin at Seven Mile Lake Park, go around the south side of the lake, out toward HWY 59, around the north side of the lake and back out to Seven Mile Lake Park.

The Fulda School Board accepts a Joint Powers Agreement with Slayton on the superintendent position.

Seven members from the Fulda FFA Chapter competed at the 1989 Minnesota State Fair on Thursday, August 31st; Trudy Overman placed 1st overall in the Dairy Cattle Showmanship contest of of 21 individuals; Jason Konz, Don Tiesler and Robyn Rehborg competed in the General Livestock contest and finished 2nd place out of 65 teams; and Angie Winter, Tena Cuperus and Dan Bierma finished 33 out of 62 teams in Dairy Cattle Judging.

Sharon Tellinghuisen and Roger Wahl engaged to be married. The couple plan an October wedding at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Fulda.

Mr. and Mrs. Craig Hennager are the parents of a son, Joel born August 26th. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. John Muller and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hennager.

Ervin and Elnora Dierks will celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary on Sunday, September 17, with an open house at St. Paul’s Church.

Brenda Amundson and Donald Kruger were married August 5th at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Heron Lake, MN.

Wednesday, Sept. 15, 1999

The Fulda City Council voted unanimously to purchase a new fire truck. The pumper truck will come from Central States at a cost of $157,857.00.

Exchange student Dario Bergamini of Italy will attend school in Fulda for the 1999-2000 school year.

Cheryl Strasser and Phil DePover will share their ceramic hobby at the Art and Flower Show at the Community/Legion Hall on September 25th.

Joan Weidert and Todd Miller were married on July 10, 1999 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Wilmont.

Gretchen Winter and Chad Scott were married May 8th at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church.

Dustin Obermoller passed away at the age of 19 years old due to a motorcycle accident in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Anton Gaul passed away at home on September 6, 1999 at the age of 82 years old.

James and Robin Gehl are proud to announce the birth of their son, Leighton, born August 31, 1999. Grandparents are Rose and Walter Gehl and Doug and Ruth Ann Knutson.

Living here in the upper Midwest, students have little chance to learn about homeless people. The Fulda FLA/FCCLA members will experience one homeless night this fall by participating in “Box City”. Members will gather in the high school and spend one night sleeping in a box, eating non-perishable meals, and looking for odd jobs.

Fulda Girl Scouts held their bridging ceremony on Thursday evening to honor those girls moving up into the next level of Scouting.
