Thurs., September 6, 1973

The Fulda School District welcomes two more new teachers; Mrs. Lita Clarke – 4th grade  and Mr. Tom Wickie – Speech Therapist for Fulda, Brewster and Round Lake.

As authorized by the 1973 legislature, FREE state park motor vehicle permits will be available for visitors 65 years of age and over.

Vandals hit St. Paul’s Lutheran School over the weekend. The damage included books thrown about, windows broken and freezer and refrigerator doors left open.

Vandalism was also reported at the men’s rest room in the Fulda City Hall on Monday afternoon.

The Cottonwood Drive-In will be closing for the season on September 9th. Thank you for your patronage – Ken and Norma Miller.

A daughter, Stacie Kay was born to Mr. and Mrs. Roy Dirksen on August 28th. Grandparents include Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Mathias and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Dirksen.

Bonnie Berg and Douglas Kirchner announce their engagement. A December wedding is planned.

Arthur Durnan passed away on September 1st at the age of 63 years old.

Lois Elskamp marks her 2nd anniversary as manager of he Nobles County Co-op Oil Company located on the corner of Front Street and St. Paul Avenue in Fulda with an Open House on September 14th. Lois has been with the company for twelve years.

Svienn Sviensson, Iceland, will attend the Fulda High School for the 1988-89 school year. Sviensson, of Scandinavian heritage, hopes to improve his English skills while here. He is making his home with the Kim Magnussen family.

Charles Loveless has been hired by the Fulda School system to teach 8th grade Science and Math for this school year.

Project Cope to be taught by Carlene Strom. Carlene, and her husband Joel, are excited to return to Home territory -both being raised in the Worthington area.

Carl F. Wolf is scheduled to present a lyceum at St. Paul’s School and Church on September 8th called ‘Odd and Curious Money’.

Fulda’s POW/MIA to hold their Second Annual POW/MIA Freedom Walk on September 25th.

Grand Opening held at the Fulda Rec with FREE cake and coffee from 2pm to 4pm and 50¢ bowling form 10am to 8pm.

Viking Football Cards are now available through the local police force. Each week the cars will feature a different Viking player.

September 9, 1998

Construction resumed at a steady pace last week after the rains stoped. The crews finished up work on Fourth and Sixth streets and moved on to the alley between Front and Second streets where the water main will be replaced for several blocks.

Homecoming week activities have six candidates for each of the king and queen honors; Mike Fenske, Trevor Otkins, Tom Meyeraan, Thomas Kunz, Justin Wildfeuer and Gus Mendoza for the guys and Lindy Crowley, Stella Trejo, Breanne Neumann, Lori Schettler, Lindsey Freking and Alaina Paplow for the girls.

As of press time those filing in Fulda are; Mayor – incumbent Mary Magnus and John Maertens; Council – incumbent David Thiner, Ken Clarke and Jan Wehking; School Board – Cheryl Janssen. Election day is November 3, 1998.

Running for Nobles County Sheriff are Kevin Dather, Ken Kerkaert and Kent Wilkening.

Shirley Loegering will have a booth at the Country Autumn Boutique featuring All Aboard Antiques.

Fulda man, Army National Guard Spc. Douglas Canfield attends training in Germany.

Brian and Cindy Dierks are the parents of a son, Justin born September 1st. Grandparents are Arvin and Leona Dierks and Jim and Helen Leister.

Mark and Lois Halbur Katterhagen are please to announce the arrival of their daughter, Kate born August 27th. Grandparent include Robert and Melba Katterhagen and Lawrence and Lorraine Halbur.

Henry Schuur passed away on August 28th at the age of 82 years old.

Mr. Hup is moving on to become the Technology Coordinator for the Fulda Public School system. His desk will be filled with Mrs. Joyce Den Hartog for this school year. Darla Heinitz will serve the district as Spanish teacher and Judy Busman as Art teacher.
